Giants Buccaneers Line

The New York Giants will look to keep their impressive start to the 2009 season going this Sunday when they travel to Tampa Bay and take on the winless Buccaneers. The Giants moved to 2-0 after they went into Dallas and spoiled the Cowboys home opener with a 33-31 win, while the Buccaneers dropped to 0-2 after they lost to the Bills 20-33. Current odds have the Giants 6.5 point favorites over the Buccaneers, while the over/under is currently sitting at 44.
Giants Preview: I for one did not think the Giants would go into Dallas and beat the Cowboys, but after last week I have gained a lot of respect for this football team. Eli Manning was very impressive throwing for 330 yards and 2 touchdowns, and looks like he has a couple of new favorite targets to throw the ball to. Both Steve Smith and Mario Manningham had 10 catches and a touchdown, with Manningham leading the way with 150 yards. No other receiver had more than 1 catch last week, and while its nice to see both of these guys produce, you would like to see a little more from the rest of the receivers. Brandon Jacobs struggled running the ball in the first half, and if it wasn’t for a 31 yard run he would of had just 27 yards on the ground. Its nice to see the passing game working, but the Giants are a running team, and I look for a big game from Jacobs and backup Ahmad Bradshaw this week. The Giants lost star defensive player Justin Tuck for most of the game, and its unclear if he will play this Sunday. With or without Tuck the defense should be able to stop the Bucs offense, but without question this is a much better team with Tuck on the field.
Buccaneers Preview: The Buccaneers offense has been shaky at best, and this team has really missed the play making ability of wideout Antonio Bryant in the passing game. Without Bryant quarterback Byron Leftwich has had trouble finding any sort of connection with the rest of the wide receivers, but has had some success throwing to tight end Kellen Winslow, who grabbed his 2nd touchdown of the season last week against the Bills. After running the ball well in week 1 against the Cowboys, the Bucs struggled to get much of anything going on the ground in week 2, as they ran for just 57 yards as a team. The defense let Bills running back Fred Jackson run for 163 yards last week, and figure to have a lot of trouble stopping the ground attack of the Giants this weekend.
My Prediction: Buccaneers +6.5
I don’t know that the Bucs will have what it takes to win this game, but I think they will surprise some people and keep this game closer than many might think. The Giants are coming off a very emotional and physical game against the Cowboys, and I fear they will come in flat, and possibly take some time to get things going in the right direction.
Got something to say?
