Giants Chiefs Week 4 NFL Predictions

Written October 1, 2009 by Jason Lowry

The New York Giants will look to push their record to a perfect 4-0 this Sunday, when they head to Kansas City to take on the 0-3 Chiefs. The Giants come into the game fresh off their 24-0 beating of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Chiefs really struggled last week on the road, losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 34-14. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting on the game this Sunday, current NFL odds have the Giants 9 point favorites over the Chiefs, with the over/under set at 42.

Giants Preview: Coming into the season the Giants defense was supposed to carry this team with the offense not sure of what it would get out of the passing game, but not only has the defense played well to start the season, the offense has really got off to a fast start. Eli Manning didn’t exactly have a huge day statistically throwing for just 161 yards on 14 of 24 passing, but he did have 2 touchdowns and no interceptions. The leading receivers for the Giants were once again Steve Smith and Mario Manningham, with Smith leading the way with 7 catches for 63 yards and a score. Even with the great start from Manning and the passing game, the offense is still about running the football, and they did just that last week, as Brandon Jacobs ran it 26 times for 92 yards and a score, while Ahmad Bradshaw added an additional spark running for 104 yards on 14 carries. With the way the Chiefs have looked to start the season, this looks like a very favorable matchup for the Giants, as the defense alone should be enough to beat the winless Chiefs. Chiefs Preview: The Chiefs headed into last week’s game against the Eagles off two games they felt like they had a very good shot to win, especially their home opener against the Raiders in week 2. That was not the case last week against the Eagles, as they were down 24-7 by halftime. The offense managed two touchdown drives thanks to the arm of Matt Cassel, who was surprisingly efficient completing 14 of 18 passes, but most were dump off passes, as he had just 90 yards for the game. The running game wasn’t much better, as Larry Johnson ran it 19 times for 38 yards, while Jamaal Charles had a little better run of things running it 6 times for 36 yards. The Chiefs defense wasn’t much better, as they let backup Kevin Kolb throw for 327 yards and 2 scores, while rookie running back LeSean McCoy ran it 20 times for 84 yards and a score. The Chiefs have made a bad habit of killing drives with penalties, and did just that last week, as they committed 10 penalties. There is no question that the Chiefs play much better on their home field, and if they can get the crowd behind them early, they could end up making it a game. Bet the Chiefs +9 to win this Sunday at Sportsbook.com.

Predicted Score: Giants 27 Chiefs 17
