New York Giants vs Dallas Cowboys Odds
Written September 18, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
New York put in a solid performance against rival Washington as the 23-17 score was not an indication of how close the game really was, the Giants were never not in control of the game. This game vs. the Dallas Cowboys is going to be interesting for many reasons. First off, the injuries and banged up players that head coach Tom Coughlin has are overwhelming. Rookie wide receiver Hakeem Nicks and running back Danny Ware are ruled out for this game as are defensive starters CB Aaron Ross and DT Chris Canty. Safety Kenny Phillips is questionable, he is one player the Gmen can not afford to lose. New York will count on their league’s best offensive line. A unit that has great chemistry and supreme talent, that O-Line is the reason for this teams dominance. Eli Manning was effective last weekend throwing for 256 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs combined for 106 yards rushing. On the defensive side is where Big Blue’s major edge comes into play. The depth they possess is tremendous, from the Ends, Linebackers and their secondary, New York will look to control the momentum of this game by not allowing big plays down the field. The x-factor for the road team tonight will be the secondary for sure. The Cowboys will be looking for the big play all night long. That is the main thing Coach Coughlin will want to prevent them from getting. If the Giants can make Dallas earn long sustaining drives and buckle down holding them to field goals, they’ll be on the winning side of this one.
The Dallas Cowboys defeated the Tampa Bay Bucs 34-21 in their opener on the road. The score does show a double digit victory and yes, it was never once in doubt as Tony Romo seemed to have any deep ball he wanted due to the awful coverage from Tampa’s corners, but there were certainly some spotty play by Dallas in some key parts that New York will want to take advantage of. Before we get to that, I should note Tony Romo looked pretty good going 16-27 for 353 yards and 3 touchdowns. The excessive yards came on three long TD bombs that Tampa was nowhere near. Perhaps the best looking Cowboys player was running back Marion Barber, he rushed for 79 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries.. The thing that caught my eye though was he had that fierce run it down your throat mentality back. The post Terrell Owens era seemed effective early as Patrick Crayton broke some big plays along with Roy Williams, Jason Witten and Miles Austin. So, the offense showed up and looked very confident doing so. The defensive showing from Dallas had its positives and negatives. On the plus side, their secondary, which has been known to be weak in recent years was very good as most of Byron Leftwhich’s passing yards for Tampa last weekend came late in the game in non-threatening situations. In was the defending against the run that was torched. The Bucs ran for 174 yards vs. Dallas and if they had so much success, imagine the type pf damage the Giants could do with this O-Line and big bruiser Brandon Jacobs. The x-factor for this team tonight will be Marion Barber. If he runs the ball as well as he did last weekend it will set up the play action long ball which is something Dallas needs to do in order to win this game. The home opener in the new Cowboys Stadium expects to be wild. The fans will be there ready to support their team. Expect a wild one.
