2011 Green Bay Packers Schedule
Written by Jack Jones
The Green Bay Packers are coming off a remarkable season in which they were left for dead but came out as champions. Injuries decimated the team early with key weapons like Ryan Grant and Jermichael Finley pronounced out for the season. Guys stepped up all year and the Packers saved their best football for last. The Packers had to win their final two games just to get into the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. They throttled the New York Giants 45-17 and squeaked by the Chicago Bears 10-3.
Green Bay would go on the road to beat the Eagles, Falcons and Bears to reach the Super Bowl. There, they overcame injuries to Donald Driver and Charles Woodson and came up with one final defensive stand against the Pittsburgh Steelers to win 31-25. Aaron Rodgers cemented himself as one of the elite quarterbacks in the game by winning the Super Bowl MVP after a tremendous season. He even had to overcome a pair of concussions that forced him to miss a couple games.
Can the Packers repeat as champions? I’m going to go over their 2011-12 NFL schedule to see just how they are likely to fare come season’s end. If everyone can stay healthy, this team has a chance to be even better than they were a year ago. Green Bay went 4-2 within their division last season after getting upset by both the Lions and Bears. I fully expect a 5-1 finish from them this year in their six games against the NFC North.
Green Bay will face the entire NFC South division, which means there are a few tough games ahead. The Atlanta Falcons will be looking for revenge at home, and the New Orleans Saints are no bargain even though that game is at Lambeau. The Packers will certainly be heavy favorites at Carolina and in their home meeting with Tampa Bay. I like their chances of finishing with at least a 3-1 record against this division.
Facing the AFC West should put plenty of wins in Green Bay’s pockets. They will be heavy favorites at home against the Oakland Raiders and the Denver Broncos. The Packers should also be favored at Kansas City, but they’ll likely be an underdog in their road meeting with San Diego. They should come away with at least a 3-1 record against the AFC West as well.
Their other two games will be against the second-place teams in the NFC East and the NFC West. The Packers will be a huge favorite at home against the St. Louis Rams before being listed as an underdog on the road versus the New York Giants. I expect a split at worst in these two contests. After taking a look at their entire schedule, I have the Packers finishing with a 12-4 record and winning the NFC North. If everyone can stay healthy, I would not be surprised to see this team with a 14-2 record or better.
