Hawaii at Boise State Odds

Many believe that Nevada will be Boise State’s last big hurdle to an undefeated regular season. But as Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast”. The Hawaii Warriors bring their high-powered offense to the Blue Turf this Saturday in hopes of pulling off the upset, and remaining undefeated in WAC play. Get your popcorn ready because this could be a shootout. The college football lines show us odds of Boise State -21 over Hawaii with a total set of 65.5 points.

Thought he second-ranked Broncos weren’t all that impressed with their latest effort, they still managed to win by four touchdowns in a 49-20 victory over Louisiana Tech. Their offense led the way in that one, and they made need an even bigger effort from that unit to fend off a Hawaii team that leads the nation in passing. Boise State will be going for their 22nd consecutive win Saturday when they face the Warriors.

The Broncos must be better defensively this week as well after allowing the Bulldogs 394 yards of total offense while also turning the ball over two times. They were able to overcome that effort thanks to 298 passing yards from Kellen Moore and 150 rushing yards from Doug Martin. Moore leads the nation in passing efficiency with a 188.3 rating. The Broncos did fall from No. 3 to No. 4 in the BCS standings, so the computers weren’t very impressed with the win, either.

“We’re only paying attention to ourselves. We’re not worried about what everybody else says about us,” coach Chris Petersen said. “The only thing that is going to influence us is us. Our kids are going to put the tape on and know if we played well or not.”

You have to take Peterson up on his word considering all he does is get his kids to put their best effort forth every week. He’ll need to get their full attention against Hawaii, who’s 50 AP votes were the most of any team outside the Top 25. The Warriors (7-2, 5-0) have reeled off five straight conference wins by an average of 24.2 points per game.

The Warriors boast the No. 1 passing offense in the land at 395.4 yards per game, led by quarterback Bryant Moniz. His 25 touchdowns passes also lead the nation, and he threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-10 win over Idaho last Saturday. What Hawaii has going for them is knowing that they were the last team to defeat Boise State in the regular season. They humbled the Broncos 39-27 back in 2007, but Boise State has gone on to win 32 consecutive non-bowl games. But that win came at Aloha Stadium.

The Broncos have won all four home meetings with the Warriors since joining the WAC by an average of 30.0 points per game. Hawaii will need to continue getting turnovers if they are to have a chance. The Warriors have forced 21 turnovers during their six-game winning streak, and are 33-5 in their last 38 if they intercept one pass and 22-2 in their last 24 if they get two or more picks. Boise State has a great defense of their own, ranking third in the nation in both scoring (13.4) and total defense (236.4).

BetUS Projected Score: Boise State 43 – Hawaii 22
