Super Bowl Betting: Santonio Holmes Props
Written January 30, 2009 by Jason Lowry

Santonio Holmes has been a huge spark plug for the Steelers this postseason, as he has came up with huge touchdowns in both of the Steelers playoff wins. Against the Chargers Holmes returned a punt 67 yards for a touchdown to tie the game up at 7 a piece, and in the AFC Championship game against the Steelers Holmes took a short pass 65 yards for a touchdown to push the Steelers lead to 13-0. With fellow receiver Hines Ward likely limited with his recent injury, Holmes will get a lot more focus, and it could be his play that propels the Steelers over the Cardinals this Sunday in the Super Bowl. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting on the Super Bowl this weekend, here is a look at the prop bets for Santonio Holmes at Sportsbook.com.
Total Receiving Yards: Over 61.5 (-125) Under 61.5 (-105)
Holmes has only 4 catches for 95 yards in 2 playoff games, and one of those was the 65 yard pass he took for a score, on a play where it could of easily turned into a turnover for the Steelers. While we think Holmes will have a few big catches in this one, we don’t think he goes over 61 yards.
Total Receptions: Over 3.5 (-135) Under 3.5 (+105)
I know they are facing the Cardinals defense and all, but I don’t get how they are putting this at 3.5, when he has had just 2 catches in each game so far. Hines Ward is expected to play, and even if he doesn’t it just makes it harder for Holmes as the Cardinals can give more attention to him. We think he comes close and winds up with 3 catches on the game.
Longest Reception: Over 20.5 (-125) Under 20.5 (-105)
This is a little more tricky when it comes to picking whether or not Holmes has a big catch in this one, but based off his ability to make opposing players miss after he catches the ball, we think he has at least one of his catches go for more than 20 yards.
Will He Score a Touchdown: Yes (+140) No (-180)
We are going to say that if the Steelers score it will likely be on the ground with Willie Parker or Mewelde Moore, and while Holmes has the ability to break it for a long touchdown, we think Roethlisberger if forced to pass in the red zone will keep a very close eye on Heath Miller and Ward, leaving Holmes out of the picture.
Total Receiving Yards on First Reception: Over 12.5 (Even) Under 12.5 (-130)
We are going under on this one, just because you can’t expect Holmes to break it for a big gain on his very first catch. We could see him grabbing an 8-9 yard pass for a first down early, but that about as good as it gets.
Will He Have a Rushing Attempt: Yes (+220) No (-300)
Holmes had two rushing attempts against the Chargers in the Steelers first playoff game, but was not used in the ground game against the Ravens. We think that with the odds you are getting, that its worth the risk to say he will have a rushing attempt against the Cardinals, and we wouldn’t be surprised if came early in the game.
