Houston at Oklahoma State Odds

houston-oklahoma-state-predictions-091009The Cowboys certainly made a statement against Georgia in week one downing the SEC powerhouse 24-10 (which was my week one BEST BET). It took Zac Robinson and Dez Bryant until late in the second quarter to get their game back in form but once they did, it was off and running for Oklahoma State. Bryant caught three passes for 77 yards but two of those passes were clutch touchdown receptions. Robinson also was down yardage wise throwing for a very low 135 yards through the air but totaled three touchdowns, two passing and one rushing. However, more impressive than anything was how hard hitting and speedy that defense was. Senior cornerback Perrish Cox was just lights out as he stole the show in my book. He did everything from returning kicks to batting balls and playing tight coverage not allowing the WR to do so much as breathe. Andre Sexton and Patrick Levine are as good an OLB duo as you’ll find. While many people talk and talk about The Gators, Longhorns and USC Trojans of the world, I am giving Mike Gundy’s squad as good a chance to get to the National Championship game as any team in the Nation. The trio of Robinson-Hunter-Bryant at the QB, RB and WR spots can go toe to toe with any other combination at those spots. Today they face a Houston team from Conference USA that sports a superb offense. Normally, I would say a shootout like this is too risky to wager on, not this time though, no sir.  The point spreads for Saturday have Oklahoma State -15 against Houston with a total set for 68 points.

The Houston Cougars have an offense that is scary good. They return junior quarterback Case Keenum who is a flat out stud. Last season he torched opponents and although first week opponent Northwestern State is nothing more than a cupcake, he threw for 359 yards and 4 touchdowns threw the air and added a rushing TD to boot. Sophomore starting RB Bryce Beall rushed for 58 yards and one TD on nine carries. They return almost all of their wide receivers and have a well balanced attack with no one guy in particular as the go to wideout. On the defensive end they return four starters and have a bunch of players they are mixing into roles. Senior cornerback Brandon Brinkley is the guy that is counted on to make big defensive plays when needed in the secondary. The massive concern for the Cougars today will be whether or not they can stay on the field with a versatile offensive attack that has star power all over the place. The x-factor that head coach Kevin Sumlin will have to count on is clutch performances from his outside linebackers.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Houston Cougars are 1-7 in their last eight road games ATS. Houston is 5-12 in their last 12 games ATS overall. The Cowboys are 7-2 in their last nine home games ATS. The Cougars have been decent verse Oklahoma State of late splitting the last four meetings with them ATS and SU. Do not sleep on Houston here as they have the offensive fire power to be competitive. Oklahoma State though is a national title contender and is very well balanced.
