Virginia vs. Miami Football Betting Odds & Spread

Editors Note: Jason Lowry has a play on the Virginia Miami game that is a must play for all bettors this weekend, as the winner in this one is a lock.
This week the Virginia Cavaliers will host the Miami Hurricane, as the two teams lock up for at least a share of the Coastal division with a win in this one. After a shaky start to the season that included losses to UConn and Duke. The Cavaliers have responded with 3 straight ACC wins, with the most recent at Georgia Tech 24-17. On the other hand the Hurricane have also been playing some pretty good football as well, as they have a solid 3 game winning streak going, that included a 16-10 win over Wake Forest at home last week. The oddsmakers think this will be a close on, as Virginia comes in just 2.5 point favorites over the Hurricane at Sportsbook.com
The Hurricanes won back-to-back ACC games for the first time since 2006, and it looks like this team may finally be headed back to a bowl game. Miami’s offense wasn’t the reason for the win last week against Wake Forest, as they totaled just 296 yards and just 102 on the ground. In fact the Hurricanes leading rusher was quarterback Robert Marve with just 56 yards, but did have a score. Marve had a pretty solid day through the air throwing for 153 yards, but most of the scoring came from place kicker Matt Bosher who had 3 big field goals.

The defense played like a Hurricane defense many of us were use to back in the 90’s, as they really shutdown the Wake Forest passing game, allowing just 57 yards through the air. Now they did give up 195 yards on the ground, but they ran it 52 times for just a 3.75 avg. It will be much tougher this week against the Cavaliers, as they are much better on the offensive side of things, plus the Hurricanes defense has struggled on the road this season, giving up over 28 points a game. Last week the Cavaliers came in as the underdog, but you wouldn’t of guess by how they played, as they racked up 396 yards of total offense with 118 coming from running back Cedric Peerman, who also had a score, and 270 yards through the air from quarterback Marc Verica who had 2 touchdown passes as well. The Cavaliers go into the game this weekend up against a Miami defense that has had its troubles on the road, so look for Virginia to score its share in this one.
The key will be the Cavs defense, and how it responds against a pretty solid Miami offense. Last week Virginia’s defense really played well against Georgia Tech holding them to just 3 points after giving up 2 first quarter scores. The Hurricanes have shown they can put some points on the board, as they scored 49 against the same Duke team that beat Virginia. The home crowd will play a big role in this one, and we think the defense will come ready to play. Bet Virginia -2.5 at Sportsbook.com
