Indiana vs Penn State Football Betting Odds & Spread
Written November 12, 2008 by Jason Lowry

After getting shocked last week on the road by the Iowa Hawkeyes, the No. 7 Penn State Nittany Lions will try and respond with a big win at home over the Indiana Hoosiers, who have just 1 win in conference play this season. Last week the Hoosiers got killed by Wisconsin at home 55-20 at home, so its easy to see this football team is not playing at a very high level. The oddsmakers are likely seeing the same thing, as Penn State comes in 36 point favorites over the Hoosiers at Bookmaker.com
The Hoosier come into this one losers of 2 straight and 7 of 8 overall, and its hard to imagine this team has any shot at all at winning this football game, so its likely about playing for pride and not letting the Nittany Lions walk all over them, but its going to be hard for this team to do that with just 2 games left and playing on the road the rest of the way. Last week against Wisconsin the Hoosiers had just 274 yards of total offense, and there weren’t any performance that stood out. The Hoosiers did do a good job of securing the football, as they actually won the turnover battle in this one, but the defense showed this unit has to score a bunch of points if they want to win games.
Now the reason we say that is the Hooisers had no answer at all for the Badgers offense, as they gave up over 600 yards of total offense, and a whopping 441 yards on the ground on 61 carries. With Penn State having an even better offensive attack, its hard to figure out just what this unit is going to do to slow down the Nittany Lions. Now talking about the spread, 31 points is a ton, but if this team doesn’t give it everything they got, they are going to get beat by 40 in this one. Bet Indiana +36 at Bookmaker.com
Now there is still a lot to play for if you are the Nittany Lions as they can still make the Rose Bowl if they win out with a win over Indiana this week and Michigan State next week. Last week against the Hawkeyes the Nittany Lions had plenty of success last week moving the football, but a huge fumble that led to an Iowa touchdown very early in the game, and a late interception in the 4th quarter that let the Hawkeyes kick the game winning field goal and pretty much ruin Penn States shot at a National Championship. The Penn State were forced into 3 field goals, and their two touchdowns came on runs by Evan Royster and Derrick Williams. We expect the Penn State offense to go off this week against an Indiana defense that is just no good.
We also expect a big day from the defense of the Nittany Lions, as they are a force on their home field. Last week the Nittany Lions were yet another team to fall victim to Shaun Green and the Hawkeyes running game, as Green continued his 100 yard streak, as he remains the only back to rush for a 100 yards in every game this season. The Nittany Lions did force two turnovers in this one, including a huge interception that looked like it was going to help put the Nittany Lions up for good. The Hoosiers offense isn’t likely going to do much in this one early, but might score a couple times when the scrubs are in in the second half. Bet Penn State -36 at Bookmaker.com
