2011 Indianapolis Colts Schedule

Written by

The Indianapolis Colts suffered through a number of key injuries last season, but that didn’t stop Peyton Manning from leading this team to its seventh AFC South title in the last eight years. The Colts finished the year 10-6. It was the first time since 2002 that they failed to win at least 12 games. With Manning still in his prime, I see no reason why this team won’t continue to dominate the South and win yet another division title this season.

To get a better idea of how the Colts might finish the 2011-12 NFL season, lets take a look at their schedule for the upcoming year. Outside of their six division games against the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis will take on the AFC North, NFC South, Kansas City Chiefs, and New England Patriots.

The Colts got off to a terrible start in the AFC South last year, dropping their first two division games against the Texans and Jaguars. The shaky start didn’t last long, as the Colts won their final four division games, including three in the final four weeks of the season to secure a division crown. While I expect the Colts to once again win their three home games against their division rivals, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them lose a game or two on the road. All three teams have great ground games, which is a must if you want a legit shot at beating this team at full strength.

Looking at the Colts four games against the AFC South they figure to come away with wins at home against the Cleveland Browns and on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, Their home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers and road game against the Baltimore Ravens aren’t so set in stone, as these are two teams that have the defensive playmakers needed to stop Manning and the Colts high-powered offense.

We will find out a lot about this team in their four games against the NFC South. Indianapolis has to go on the road to take on the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while getting the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons at home. You can pretty much lock in a Colts win against the Panthers, but the other three games could all go either way. While Tampa Bay, New Orleans, and Atlanta are all legit playoff contenders, it would be a bit of a surprise if the Colts didn’t go at least 2-2 against this division.

The final two games to look at are the Colts two conference games against the Chiefs and Patriots. Both of these teams landed on the Colts schedule in 2010. Indianapolis beat the Chiefs at home 19-9 last year, but it was a much closer game than the final score indicates. Indianapolis lost at New England 31-28 a year ago. While winning at New England is no easy task, the Colts are one of a few teams that can get the job done.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see the exact same result as last year in these two games.
