Iowa at Iowa State Football Picks

Written September 12, 2009 by Jack Jones

Iowa Iowa State FootballThe Iowa at Iowa State game might not get a lot of national attention, but it is an intense rivalry that has been taken by the Cyclones more often than not over the last 10 years.  The Hawkeyes were a little disappointing last week against another in-state rival, UNI, so it was a surprise that they opened at -6 when the college football odds went out.  If you are going to do any football betting on this game check out Bodog, who is a respected and trusted 15-year industry leader.  You also might want to check out the football picks offered below by our top football handicappers.

John Martin has his 4 unit In-State Rivalry Game of the Week going here.  This is a game that is backed by a strong 91% ATS System that Martin thinks will leave nothing to chance.  He is the reigning No. 3 handicapper in college football from a year ago and has gotten off to a fast 5-2 start on the NCAA gridiron.   He’s also on a 13-6 overall football run, so when it comes to finding an expert who can help you build your bankroll this fall, he’s one of those guys.

Dave Price has a 6* High Noon Heavy Hitter on Saturday and he thinks the odds on the Iowa/Iowa State game are way off.  This is a game that Price thinks will leave you confident you are cashing your bet before halftime even comes, so why not jump on board with this excellent capper.

Jimmy Boyd is offering his free pick on this one, and he’s riding the Hawks -6:  The Iowa State Cyclones have dominated this matchup from a point spread standpoint in recent history, but Iowa normally blows its non-conference opponent off the field the week before and then comes into this matchup over confident and underestimating the Cyclones. That won’t be the case this season as the Hawkeyes were lucky to survive FCS Northern Iowa in Week 1. Getting a scare right out of the gate has got the attention of this much more talented Hawkeye squad and I look for the wake up call to serve them well Saturday. Iowa State’s Week 1 win wasn’t as impressive as first glance might lead you to believe as the Cyclones gave up 210 rushing yards to N. Dakota St. for a 5.5 yards per carry average. Iowa should dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides of the football and I look for the Hawks to play as hard the entire game as they did on the final two plays last week when they blocked back-to-back field goal attempts. The Road team is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 meetings and it is also worth noting that the Hawkeyes are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games, 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game, and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0. Lay the points.
