Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 12/23/08

I’m going to try something new and post all of the plays that I looked at but didn’t pull the trigger on as BEST BETS and list them on the site. This way maybe it will help you decide on a game you are on the fence about. If I agree with you, then maybe that gives you just enough to make it a play, and if I’m against you, well then better luck to you than me since I made it a no-play.

Here is what I have for Tuesday, December 23, 2008:

TCU/Boise State UNDER 45

I know the public is all over the over since Boise State has done such a great job on offense this year, but TCU’s defense has looked scary against quite a few good teams. The fact that the Horned Frogs held the Sooners to 35 points impresses us when so many other teams gave up 50 in the first half alone! I’m not overly confident since bowl games seem to be higher scoring, but if you made me choose I’d take the UNDER tonight.

Florida International +29.5

I by no means am expecting anything close to an upset out of a 4-8 team taking on a superior 8-1 Hoya squard, but this is a rediculous amount of points to be laying. Sure they have been crushed by the good teams they have played this season, and Georgetown did post a 27-point win over Maryland. But can anyone seriously think the Hoyas are going to be up for this game like they were against the Terps? I see Georgetown getting up by 17-20 points by half and then coasting to the finish. They have bigger fish to fry this season.

Boston Celtics -13 over Philadelphia 76ers

How can you not like the Celtics as they have won 18 straight games and dominated most of their opponents. Their last two games have been absolute blowouts against the Knicks and Bulls in which they combined for 250 points. Rajon Rondo is really emerging as a start in his own right and had another big game against the Knicks. The Sixers are 1-9 ATS (-8.9 Units) versus good defensive teams – shooting pct defense of <=43% over the last 2 seasons while Boston is 16-4 ATS (+11.6 Units) versus poor 3 point shooting teams – making <=33% of their attempts over the last 2 seasons.
