Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 1/6
Written January 6, 2009 by Jack Jones

Big day yesterday with Ohio State cashing in for us on the Fiesta Bowl. We also rack up some profits with our college basketball picks as Notre Dame and Old Dominion hit, but San Jose falls just short.
Expect more of the same tonight as I have the Ball State/Tulsa winner going on the premium side as a 10*. I know it’s not as big of a play as I have had the last few days, but I’m still dominating the Bowls since New Year’s Day both with free picks (3-1) and on the premium side (4-0).
Let’s keep the college basketball rolling on Tuesday night as I have both my Darkhorse Dominator and my Big Ten Blowout tonight. Check out the Jack Jones homepage to find out all of the details.
I am also 33-22 over my last 55 on ice this year and last night’s winner on the Rangers just couldn’t get much easier. I think I have another game pinned down for Tuesday that will be just as easy.
Free Picks for Tuesday
Remember that these are the weakest plays I’ve picked out, and will not be playing them personally. The best bets on the board will always be available only to premium subscribers. Where do I find these lines? Check out our college basketball odds page to see which book has the best number!
Alabama +14.5
This is a pretty big number for Clemson to be laying tonight and I think they are just overvalued after starting off the year with a 14-0 record. Don’t be fooled by that no. 12 ranking as this Tigers team has preyed off of plenty of smaller fish. You will see the Tide put up a fight tonight as Bama has won five in a row and just beat Georgia Tech 88-77 on Saturday. Alabama is holidng opponents to 63.8 points and 38% shooting, including just 27.6% from 3-point range. Clemson is scoring a lot of points, and I think that is why the line on this game is so high but with that Tide defense keeping the points lower, I think you’ll see them come in with a cover tonight.
Texas -5
The Longhorns have probably had to face off against the toughest schedule in the country up to this point, including games against St. Joe’s, Notre Dame, Oregon, UCLA, Villanova, Michigan State, and Wisconsin but still Texas is 11-2. The Razorbacks on the other hand haven’t had to play anyone except for Oklahoma, and while they did pull off the upset I’m still not convinced. Arkansas shot 51% from the field and 46% from behind the arc in that game, which was 5.5% and 8% higher than their season averages against weaker teams. The Hogs also had 43 free throw attempts, numbers they are not going to be able to repeat against the Longhorns tough defense tonight, so lay the small number.
Free Pick Records:
