Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 1/7
Written January 7, 2009 by Jack Jones

I am coming off of another profitable night as Tulsa wins in a blow out over Ball State, our NBA winner on the Kings cashes, and the big CBB play on Connecticut comes through. Let’s keep the profits rolling in on Wednesday as I have a pretty nice card up on the premium side. I feel pretty good about the 20* Big East Blood Bath play and I also have a 15* Marquee Matchup winner on Gonzaga/Tennessee in college basketball. In the NBA I have a package called the Profits on the Pathetic because it’s more politically correct than “Dogsh*t Dandy” like I wanted to call it. Obviously it’s on the Thunder/Timberwolves game since these two teams have the worst records in the league. Don’t be scared off by the title though, I was just trying to keep it light while we cash in on some NBA betting tonight.
Free Picks for Wednesday
Remember that these are the weakest plays I’ve picked out, and will not be playing them personally. The best bets on the board will always be available only to premium subscribers. Where do I find these lines? Check out our college basketball odds and our NBA lines pages to see which sportsbook has the best number!
Even without Carmelo Anthony I think this Denver Nuggets team has more than enough weapons to take care of the Heat. The Nuggets have gone 10-4-1 ATS in their last 15 games against the Eastern Conference and will be taking on a Miami team that is yet to head to the West Coast for a road trip this year. Miami is 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 against the Western Conference and they are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings with the Nuggets. I’ll lay the points here as I expect Denver to win fairly easily.
Michigan is coming off a 74-64 win over Illinois on Sunday and they are off to a fast 11-3 start that already has the Wolverines past last year’s mark of ten total wins. Indiana is coming off a 65-60 loss at Iowa, which was a better performance than I expected, but at 5-8 and with four straight losses that isn’t really saying much. Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims are really doing a great job for this Wolverines team. Harris is scoring 18.8 points, dishing out 5 assists, and grabbing 7.6 rebounds per game while Sims adds 16.6 points and 8.8 boards. I just don’t see the Hoosiers having an answer for those two guys as they lose big on their home floor tonight.
I like Louisville in this matchup since they have done such a great job of playing defense this year, while South Florida has struggled to put points up on the board. The Bulls are coming off a 36.7% shooting performance, including hitting just 4-of-23 from behind the arc, in their loss to the Orange on Friday. South Florida has shot only 30% from 3-point range this year and 58% from the line, which is why they are only averaging 61.3 points per game. Louisville on the other had is averaging 76 points while holding opponents to just 38% shooting. Don’t expect South Florida to get much past the 50-point mark in this one while Louisville does their thing on offense and scores with ease in a blowout.
