Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 2/22

Written February 22, 2009 by Jack Jones

knicks_alexisOur first back-to-back set of losing days in over a month and I’m pretty determined to put a stop to it today.  Late added play on DePaul at least let us get something back, but blown halftime leads and App State battling back just to go down in flames led to a pretty rough Saturday.

One game jumped out at me today more than any has all week, and that’s the 25* Total Annihilator on the Celtics/Suns.  This game goes in the early afternoon, so act fast so you can join us for an easy winner that should help us get back on track.  Even with losing two BEST BETS in a row we are 17-5 on our last 22.  I’m also playing a 15* total on the Pistons/Cavs and a 15* CBB winner on Wake/Duke.  Grab my package now at the Jack Jones home page or take a look at some of the NCAA basketball picks & NBA picks being released by our other top handicappers.

Free Premium Picks: Comment on my free picks article for today over at Betfirms.com. Tell me why you agree or disagree with today’s free picks and get today’s 25* Total Annihilator!  I send the free premium picks out in one batch today around 1 PM EST, so if you post after they’ve been sent you’ll get tomorrow’s play.

Free Picks for Sunday

Remember that these are the weakest plays I’ve picked out, and will not be playing them personally. The best bets on the board will always be available only to premium subscribers. Seton Hall +1 over St. John’s at Sports Interaction

St. John’s has lost five in a row to get to 3-10 in Big east play.  This team has also lost 10 of their last 12 games, with those two wins coming against the likes of Rutgers and South Florida, more bottom dwellars in the conference.  Seton Hall is coming off a couple of losses to UConn and Marquette, but they played two of the Big East’s elite tougher than you would have expected, especially on defense.  Seton Hall won by 10 earlier in the year on their home floor and had put together five straight wins before falling to the Huskies and Golden Eagles, so there isn’t much of a doubt in my mind who is the better team here.

New York Knicks +3 over Toronto Raptors at Sports Interaction

New York has won 12 of their last 15 games at the pay window and I think they have a great chance to win again tonight in Toronto.  These two teams met on Friday night and the Knicks easily took care of the Raptors 127-97.  This Toronto team has been very disappointing all year long, and they have only put up 89 ppg over their last 5, which means they will have a tough time keeping up with a Knicks team that is averaging nearly 120 during that same span.

Free Pick Records:

CBB: 41-25
NBA: 13-16
NHL: 4-0 (+665)
CFB: 3-1
NFL: 4-1

I like your Knicks pick – Toronto is in shambles now; St. John’s, however, will show up at home and beat SH

Knicks should be a lock. Already went with them. Haven’t looked too much into the college games yet.

I look for the Celtics to continue their string of bad breaks againsnt the west. Suns -2 and wouldn’t be surprised with the over 222.

Also look for the Nuggets to bounce back against the bucks. Nuggets -3.

I hate to disagree with your Free NBA play again but your record is gonna get worse in NBA. NY just beat this team by 27 and now they are dog.WTF? no sense. In the Raps only other home and home they lost by DD to Boston in canada and then took Boston to OT. PLUS its been a long while since NY won in Toronto. Raps come out with fire and win. RAPs+3.

I’ll go with with your seton hall play

Jack I think you right on with the Knicks, Toronto is a little better at getting up for a game at home but New York isn’t the kind of team that thinks they are so good they can take a night off, they will still come out and light it up. Seton hall is better than St. Johns but that isn’t saying much. as murdoch sez “i’ll bet it lightly and politely”

Knicks pick looks good. They just beat Toronto by 30 a couple days ago. St Johns is just terrible, so got to go with Seton Hall also. Lets get back to the winning ways today.

Both these game seem like safe plays. St johns has been struggling as of late. A;lso, the knicks are a solid play against the raptors. Dantoni has got the knocks playing competitive basketball…

Really like the Knicks pick because they are playing really well right now and the Raptors can’t put the ball in the ocean. As far as Seton Hall I don’t feel as strongly about them but definitely would lean toward them over a faltering St. Johns team.

JJ I agree people are talking about NY being flat after just beating Tor.by 30 but I dont see that, may not win by 30 again but should still win. Undecided on Seton Hall (lean on S.H.) burSt.Johns has been fighting and clawing to stay in games lately but this being a small # it looks good to me. Good Luck and lets start a new streak.

I have had luck betting with the knicks lately, but am not sure this may be the pick. I’m going with the over in this game. Seton Hall is the better of the pick between thes two.

A no bet for me; whilst Seton Hall is surely the better team, they may only be so by the degree of home advantage or even slightly less.

I am not a great believer in ‘form’ that is not accounted for by the market so I would say a ‘St.John’s in poor form’ argument would only be justified if there was an identified reason for that poor form, such as a key injury.
