Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 2/5
Written February 5, 2009 by Jack Jones
A nice 2-0 sweep right here with our free picks yesterday as both Villanova and Missouri came through. We weren’t so lucky on the premium side, dropping a couple of close college basketball games, but easily covering our OVER on the Suns/Warriors last night. Going 1-2 just doesn’t cut it though, and we are out for revenge in a big way tonight as Jack releases his 25* No Doubt Rout in college basketball, the side of the Penn State/Michigan game, and a 15* on the Lakers/Celtics that you can watch cash live on TNT! Sign up at the Jack Jones homepage for a one-day subscription and get in on the winning, or check out the other NBA picks and NCAA basketball picks offered tonight by our handicappers.

Arizona State -8 over Oregon at Bookmaker
The Sun Devils are on their first losing streak of the season at two games, and I expcet them to come out determined to put a stop to it tonight at Oregon. The Sun Devils have proven they could win on the road in Pac-10 play, going 3-2 overall, and this team should have some extra motivation as head coach Herb Sendek needs one more win for 300 all-time. Oregon is 0-9 in the Pac-10 and hasn’t won since December. They are coming off a tough 3-point loss to their in-state rivals on Saturday. Arizona State won by 18 earlier this year against the Ducks, and I see another double digit victory coming tonight.
Wisconsin -3.5 over Illinois at Bookmaker
In college basketball you have to know when to ride hot teams and know when to fade cold ones. This is a great example as previously you could have made some real money by taking Illinois and by going against the Badgers. Now though everyone is on the Illini bandwagon while Wisconsin has disappointed. I think Bo Ryan will have his bunch ready to rebound at home tonight against this Illinois team that only put up 39 points against the Gophers and bounced back strong in the second half to beat the Hawkeyes. The Illini have also struggled recently on the road against Minnesota, Michigan State, and Michigan to go to 2-3 away from home. The Badgers are desperate at 3-6 in the Big Ten, but that is due more to bad luck and tough breaks than inferior talent (their last five losses all came by 7 or less).

Got something to say?

I agree with you on both as Aiz.St.will be determined to get back on track and Wisc.finds a way to save what was an embarrasing showing last time. Good Luck and stay HOT.

Defintely agree with Wisc over Illini at home as they look to even the series on the season.
Don’t see Arizona st losing 3 in a row against a strugling Oregon team

I don’t see Arizona State losing tonight either and I think they win in blowout fashion to get back on track.

Butler was a close miss for me, but I liked it so good luck on it!

Wisconsin has been very disappointing this year. In this Big ten match-up I would not feel comfortable picking Wisconsin over the Illini. There really doesnt seem to be any real ryhme or reason to picking Wisconsin except a possible gut instinct.

Josh, hopefully from my reasoning you can see that it’s more than a gut instinct play, but I totally understand how you can doubt a team like Wisconsin that has underachieved. This is a play that should have been rated strong and a premium play, but since I didn’t trust it I had to downgrade it to the free side.

Wisconsin will shut down weak illinois offense. Oregon loses but covers

I agree with you on Wisconsin, I mean if Minnesota can hold the Illini under 40 what are the Badgers going to do? Oregon losing isn’t a stretch since they are a big 0-for in the conference and I don’t like taking road teams favored by this many, but I think the Sun Devils are the play tonight.

no comment on Oregon, that one I haven’t decided on yet. I agree with your pick that Wisconsin will get back on track tonight at home against the Illini

I agree with you that Wisconsin will get back on track tonight… Even though they haven’t been playing good lately, they’re a great team at home and will get a win tonight.

Zona state is clearly the better team here favored by the 8 on the road, they can put up points like an NBA squad and they will show it here tonight, i wouldnt doubt them up by 10 at half and blow it out by game’s end. NICE SELECTION JACK,
Wisconsin and Illinois is a tough one, like you said some teams are hot and others cold, these two teams are a prime example of that and it could really go either way tonight. Wisconsin has the home-court and that’s always big in college ball so i think the 3.5 is not that bad of a spread and they should cover tonight.
Once again solid picks Jack,
Good Luck Sir

Clearly like your thoughts on the Arizona State game Chris and think you are spot on.
The Wisconsin game is one I feel like the Badgers should win easily, but then again things haven’t been going as they should with Wisconsin this year so I had to back the play down to the free side.
