Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 3/13
Written March 13, 2009 by Jack Jones
We finally got out of a slump on the free pick yesterday on Akron, but the premium side still struggled with the 20* losing on Pitt and my NBA total going down in flames. Tonight I have a 20* going in the SEC tournament with a 15* in both the NBA and college basketball. As I’ve said this week, I’m great fade material right now, so tread with caution until I get out of this funk.
Grab my package now at the Jack Jones home page or take a look at some of the NCAA basketball picks & NBA picks being released by our other top handicappers.

Free Pick for Friday
So I know I’ve had this disclaimer about the free picks being the weakest plays and that I don’t play them, but I really put 1% of my bankroll on these games in comparison to 3-4% on the regular and BEST BETS. I just don’t want people getting ridiculous on the free picks when they aren’t intended to be the highest percentage of winners that I offer. Where do I find these lines? Check out our NBA odds and college basketball lines pages to see which sportsbook has the best number!
Illinois Fighting Illini -2.5 at BetUS
What I really like about Illinois in this match up is their defense. The Illini hold opponents to just 56.5 points per game. Teams are currently shooting just 39.5% from the field against Illinois, which includes a tremendous perimeter defense that allows just 28.5% from beyond the three-point line. In this situation both teams should make it to the tournament regardless of their performance in the conference tournament. This takes out some of the hyper-motivation we’ve seen so many times already in the conference tournaments were the team set with an NCAA tournament bid doesn’t come out and give their best effort.
Free Pick Records:
CBB: 46-32
NBA: 20-23
NHL: 4-0 (+665)
CFB: 3-1
NFL: 4-1
I also post my free picks on Twitter so if you follow me there it may be easier to get the picks if you are away from your computer.

Not so sure about this one! You mention perimeter D, which is key for the Illini. The loss of Chester Frazier to a hand inj. will surely hurt this effort. Talk about 2 teams that play w/ a lack of emotional effort at time…here you have: them MI and IL. Manny Harris and DeShawn Sims are playing as hot as anybody in the country. If Sims can keep his ADD in check and play the right basket, then MI could keep this one very close and possibly pull out a win. MI has the athletes hands down over IL. Il does have the better team for bball intelect though and the coaching advantage has to go to coach Weber at this point. MI has more to win than IL has to lose, so I’m taking MI in a ver close game.

You are just not making wise picks…why use a close call game like this a yr freebee?..BTW UM is my pick
Reply
Not a fan of BIG TEN ball aside from Michigan St. Wisconsin loses to Ohio St. No reason why UM can’t beat Illinois. They have the grit to do it. There just isn’t enough separation between these Big Ten teams to make a wise wager on them. Flip a coin……your chances might be better with the coin than any handicapping might achieve.

I think the Illinois “D” will be the difference also! In the SEC I like Tennessee and Florida.

I liked Illinois before I heard Chester Frazier is not gonna play because of injured hand. likely staying away from this play because i never can win when Michigan is involved
