Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 3/17

Written March 17, 2009 by Jack Jones

jack-free-picks-031709Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’m back Tuesday after taking Monday off due to limited action on the board.  I did want to mention that our free pick hit with Memphis +9 (NBA) on Sunday, plus the 20* ended up winning in the NBA on the Atlanta Hawks -4.  For Tuesday I’ve got a full card with a 20* and a 15* play going in the NIT along with a 15* total in the NBA.  It feels good to be winning again, let’s start another great winning run!

Grab my package now at the Jack Jones home page or take a look at some of the NCAA basketball picks & NBA picks being released by our other top handicappers.

The run to March Madness is on at SPORTSBETTING.COM.  They have great bonuses for new customers, plus re-load bonuses for subsequent deposits.  Head to SPORTSBETTING.COM today, signup for a new account, and enter their huge March Madness contest!

Make sure you check out the March Madness Contest with Trev Rogers by heading to the service plays forum to see who is taking who. Also, for those of you interested in joining the play of the day contest, the lines are up and a few people have already locked in their picks there as well.

Free Premium Picks: Comment on my free pick article for today over at Betfirms.com.  Just tell me why you agree or disagree with today’s free picks and I’ll send you tonight’s 15* NBA pick for free.  Please note that I send out this pick around 5 PM EST, so if you post after that you will have to wait for tomorrow’s freebie!

Free Picks for Tuesday

So I know I’ve had this disclaimer about the free picks being the weakest plays and that I don’t play them, but I really put 1% of my bankroll on these games in comparison to 3-4% on the regular and BEST BETS. I just don’t want people getting ridiculous on the free picks when they aren’t intended to be the highest percentage of winners that I offer. Where do I find these lines? Check out our NBA odds and college basketball lines pages to see which sportsbook has the best number!

76ers/ Lakers OVER 203 at BetUS
The Laker’s potent offense puts up 109.0 points per game at home this year, which is a good thing considering they don’t have much concern for defense.  You can’t blame the Lakers for giving up over 100 points per game this year.  Simply scoring as much as they do accounts for higher point totals for other teams because they get to take more shots.  Enter Philadelphia to tonight’s match up, scoring about 97 points per game while giving up just under 99 points per game.  I think it’s reasonable to expect that both teams reach 100 points, much like they did in their first meeting this year (LA won 114-102 in Philly).

St. Mary’s Gaels -4 over Washington State at BetUS
The Gaels are probably still feeling a bit slighted by the NCAA tournament selection committee, so what better way to prove them wrong than to come out with their guns blazing in the NIT.  Besides the motivational factors that may or may not impact the game, I just think St. Mary’s is the better basketball team.  Their offense was great this year, particularly in home games where they averaged 80.1 points per game.  As if that weren’t impressive enough, their defense only allowed 62.7 points per game as well.  For those of you keeping score at home, that’s an average home win of just over 17 points per game.  The Gael’s only loss at home this year came against the NCAA tournament bound Gonzaga Bulldogs and I certainly don’t see this Washington State team, that averaged just 59.3 points per game on offense this year, to hand St. Mary’s their second home loss of the season.

Free Pick Records:

CBB: 47-32
NBA: 21-24
NHL: 4-0 (+665)
CFB: 3-1
NFL: 4-1

As far as the LALs over, just look at their last game,120 points in the FH,so thats an easy over for the game right, nope as only 87 points were scored in the second half, which I had under 103 on and did not reach the game over of 209.Plus I cant see the 76ers wanting to get into a run and gun game with these guys at LA.
I do like St Marys, but in the NIT games who have to think about the fact of the bad treatment by being left out of the NCAA,much like a football team in a lesser bowl then they thought they deserved.
So does St Marys come out ready to play or just go thru the game waiting for it to end.But they are the better team and if they want to they win easy.

Lakers are playing like a true champion this year, unlike, say, the Boston Celtics. They play with a lot of confidence and it shows in the way they allow other teams to stick around for three quarters then shut them down late in the fourth. This kind of maturity will prove itself tonight as they get up and down the court with the Sixers easily achieving over (203.5) points. This is money in the bank and worth a large wager. I predict that the first half goes well over the total, even opening up the possibility for a middle play on the Under in the second half.

Gaels are a proud team but I’m not so sure they’ll be back in full strength considering Hill’s injury. Washington St. may just slow this whole thing down to a snails pace and at that point either side will have a decent chance of getting the win. If I were to play it I’d only consider the Under (119) in this one.

The over line seems low. A little fishy. I wouldn’t be surprised if it went under. But it’s never fun betting on the under! Over all the way baby! Happy St. Patricks!

Good call Jack… Lakers potent offense should push this game over…and St. Marys probably should be in the tourney…good luck…

Looks like another good day for you I think you’ll go 2-0. That Laker total worries me a bit as I think its too low asking for the Over action.

Will be a tough game for ST. Mary’s. Lakers/Sixers should easily cover the over 203.

I am with you on the over for sure, Looking for some points to be put up in LA. But I am rolling with Wash St tonight. I personally think that St Mary’s will fall flat on there face tonight and Mills will struggle and shot St Marys straight to the loss column and the offseason. They fill like they were screwed by the committee and will come out tonight and prove them right. But good luck to everyone regardless of what side you are on.
