Jack’s Free Sports Picks: 4/3

Written April 3, 2009 by Jack Jones

jacks-free-picks-nba-040309We’re starting to build some steam again, winning last night’s lone play NBA, a 20* side on the Denver Nuggets.  For Friday night I’ve put out a total of 3 plays with the 20* going in the NBA, a 15* on the deciding game of the CBI Tournament in college hoops, and a 15* play that also goes in the NBA.  All sides tonight, no totals.  I’m also giving out 2 free plays in today’s newsletter to make up for the slim card last night.  Good luck!  Grab my package now at the Jack Jones home page or take a look at some of the NCAA basketball picks & NBA picks being released by our other top handicappers.

The run to March Madness is on at SPORTSBETTING.COM.  They have great bonuses for new customers, plus re-load bonuses for subsequent deposits.  Head to SPORTSBETTING.COM today, signup for a new account, and enter their huge March Madness contest!

Free Premium Picks: Comment on my free pick article for today over at Betfirms.com. Tell me why you agree or disagree with today’s free pick and get tonight’s NBA 15* play! I send the free premium picks out in one batch today around 5 PM EST, so if you post after they’ve been sent you’ll get tomorrow’s play.

Free Picks for Friday

So I know I’ve had this disclaimer about the free picks being the weakest plays and that I don’t play them, but I really put 1% of my bankroll on these games in comparison to 3-4% on the regular and BEST BETS. I just don’t want people getting ridiculous on the free picks when they aren’t intended to be the highest percentage of winners that I offer. Where do I find these lines? Check out our NBA odds and college basketball lines pages to see which sportsbook has the best number!

Houston Rockets +5.5 over LA Lakers at BetUS

I’m on the Rockets to cover against the Lakers tonight in LA.  I think that pace is the key word in this match up, and I belive the Rockets will be able to dictate the pace of the game and keep it close.  I am well aware that the Lakers have been great at home this year, but they are just coming out of a 7-game road trip and I feel like they will slow their offensive tempo.  Add the fact that the Rockets are fighting for a better seed in the playoffs while the Lakers are locked into the #1 spot (and would be wise to rest their starters as much as possible) and you’ve got a good spot for a Houston upset, or at least an ATS win.

Oklahoma City Thunder +5 over Portland Trail Blazers at BetUS

The Thunder have been bad this year, particularly on defense, but I like that they’ve exceeded most oddsmakers expectations by continuing to win against the spread.  The Thunder are just 14-23 in home games this year, but they’ve managed a 19-16 mark against the spread (likewise they are 21-53 overall and 41-31 ATS this season).  Tonight OKC hosts the Portland Trail Blazers, who have won 3 in a row at home, but hit the road for the first of a 4-game trip tonight.  This isn’t good news for the Blazers, who are just 16-20 straight up and ATS on the road this year.  I also like the fact that the Thunder are coming off of an upset as a 13-point underdog in San Antonio.  This young team doesn’t have much to play for, but that victory shows me they are not phoning it in for the rest of their season.

Free Pick Records:

CBB: 50-36
NBA: 25-30
NHL: 4-0 (+665)

i think the okc might cover on their own court…but the lakers letting houston stay that close down the stretch, especially with only one days rest for houston… expect houston to get swept for the first time by LAL in a bunch of years. ballz

Tough call jack… Lakers at home are capable of blowing out the rockets…not sure this game is playable… and the blazers really look like they are building some momentum…not sure the thunder can stay in this one… Good luck jack…

I dont like either of these picks. As a matter a fact i will be betting the lakers cover that spread at home. First home game in a while? Double digit victory for the lakers. As far as other game… i wouldnt touch it.

Love the Houston play, One team battling for position and one try to stay healthy. I am going to place a small amount on the Money line as well. I am on the T-Blazers tonight. If the Blazers want to make a playoff run then going into a hostile arena and winning is a must. I see them taking advantage of playing against a team that plays well at home and using it to build confidence as they head towards the playoffs.

Think both have a shot as LALs comming home should be tired, but the Cavs loss to Wash.might have them up a bit as its getting close to the end for home-court.
OKC has been a cover machine this year esp getting points at home,GL

I am leaning that way too in Houston. LAL are 1-3 ATS after a 3 game or longer road trip this year. Their only W was vs Boston and Lakers had that game circled as revenge.BUT their 3 losses have been to DD spreads. Lakers have knocked off the Rocketas 3 str8. so they are due.
    Rockets +5 1/2
