2009 Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule
Written May 27, 2009 by Steve Janus
The Jacksonville Jaguars managed just 5 wins last season, but the projected 2009 NFL win totals puts them at 8 for this season. The Jags suffered an embarrassing 2-6 (1-7 against the spread) record in Jacksonville last season, but all indications are that they will get back on track on their home turf in 2009. Let’s look at Jacksonville’s schedule for this season and see which games they are likely to win, and those they are projected to lose. The Jaguars have four pre-season games scheduled for 2009. They start on Monday, August 17th at the Miami Dolphins. From there they take the short trip home to play the Tampa Bay Bucs on Saturday, August 22nd. On Thursday, August 27th they finally head out of the state of Florida, playing the Philadelphia Eagles. For their final pre-season game, the Jags head back home to face the Washington Redskins on Thursday, September 3rd. Looking for tickets to Jaguars games this season? Check StubHub first!
Week 1 - Sunday, September 13th at the Indianapolis Colts – It doesn’t get much more difficult than opening up the season on the road against the Colts. I have this marked as a loss for Jacksonville.
Week 2 - Sunday, September 20th at home against the Arizona Cardinals – The Cards made the Super Bowl last season, but they were just 3-5 on the road and did not play well onedu the East Coast. Jacksonville wins here.
Week 3 - Sunday, September 27th at the Houston Texans – The Texans are no longer a push-over of a team, they had one of the top 3 offenses in terms of total yards in the entire NFL last year. Texans earn the win at home.
Week 4 – Sunday, October 4th at home against the Tennessee Titans – The Titans swept the Jags last year. They are probably in for more of the same in ‘09. Tag this as a Jacksonville loss.
Week 5 - Sunday, October 11th at the Seattle Seahawks – Traveling across country can be brutal to NFL teams, however, I still think the Jags have the better personnel. Jacksonville wins in Seattle.
Week 6 – Sunday, October 18th at home against the St. Louis Rams – The Rams ranked second-to-last in points scored last year, as well as points allowed. They haven’t improved that much in the off-season. Take the Jags to win in Week 6.
Week 7 - BYE
Week 8 - Sunday, November 1st at the Tennessee Titans – Titans sweep the Jaguars again in 2009.
Week 9 - Sunday, November 8th at home against the Kansas City Chiefs – Should be a good battle between two improved teams from last season, but the Jags have the edge.
Week 10 - Sunday, November 15th at the New York Jets – The Jets are tough at home (5-3 last year), this looks like a loss for Jacksonville to me.
Week 11 - Sunday, November 22nd at home against the Buffalo Bills – I’m expecting the Jags to be much better at home this year. Chalk up another win for Jacksonville.
Week 12 - Sunday, November 29th at the San Francisco 49ers – San Fran will continue to get better in my opinion, but I like the Jags in this one.
Week 13 – Sunday, December 6th at home against the Houston Texans – This is turning into a pretty good rivalry. Texans won in Houston, Jaguars win in Jacksonville.
Week 14 - Sunday, December 13 at home against the Miami Dolphins – Miami grabs the victory here in a close game.
Week 15 – Thursday, December 17th at home against the Indianapolis Colts – Peyton and company should come to town and walk out with a win over Jacksonville.
Week 16 – Sunday, December 27th at the New England Patriots – As long as the Pats have something to play for, they’ll win this match up.
Week 17 - Sunday, January 3rd at the Cleveland Browns – It probably won’t be a pretty game, but I like the Jags to win in Cleveland this year.
