2011 Jacksonville Jaguars Schedule

Written by

With the Indianapolis Colts derailed with injuries and the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans both struggling to win games, the AFC South was up for grabs last season. The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like they were going to pounce on the opportunity after a 8-5 start, but they failed to win a single game over the final three weeks of the season, and ended up finishing the year 8-8. The disappointing finish has left a lot of question marks for the upcoming season. The Jaguars went out and drafted Blaine Gabbert with the 10th pick in the 2011 draft. Which means it’s do or die for starting quarterback David Garrard.

To get a better idea of where the Jaguars might be headed, lets take a look at their 2011-12 schedule and see if this team has any hopes of competing for a division title this season. Outside of the Jaguars six division games against the Colts, Texans, and Titans, Jacksonville will face the AFC North, NFC South, San Diego Chargers, and New York Jets.

While the Jaguars likely would have been happy going into the season with a 3-3 record against the AFC South, their inability to beat the Colts on the road late in the year is what kept this team from winning the division. It also doesn’t help when you split your season series against the Titans and Texans, who both went 6-10 on the year. With the Colts and Texans both looking like they will be much better teams this season, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the Jaguars dropped to 2-4 or even worse against the South this year.

In the Jaguars four games against the AFC North they have to go on the road to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, while getting the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals at home. The only game I see the Jaguars favored against the North is at home against the Bengals in week 5, and even that isn’t a sure thing. There is a possibility that they could sneak out a win on the road against the Browns, but I wouldn’t count on it.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Jaguars in their four games against the NFC South. Jacksonville has to play the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home, and have to go on the road to take on the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. While the Jaguars figure to have a shot at the Saints and Buccaneers at home, their best shot at a win is on the road against the Panthers. I think the Jaguars would be happy with a 2-2 mark against this division, but that might be asking a little too much.

With the Jaguars second place finish in the AFC South last season, they now have to face the Jets and Chargers in their two other conference games. They go on the road to take on the Jets in week 2, and then later host the Chargers in week 13. It’s hard to be optimistic about a win in either of these games, as these are two of the best teams in the AFC.  Overall the schedule just doesn’t look good for the Jaguars, which will likely lead to Gabbert taking over before the end of the season.
