NFL Betting Odds: Jaguars at Patriots
Written December 23, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Jaguars have certainly gave it a good shot. They have suffered back to back losses by the hands of the undefeated Colts by four points while also falling to the Dolphins at home 14-10 two weeks ago. David Garrard has been up and down this season. It seems like either he has an excellent game or a terrible one, not much gray area with his play this season. Garrard has collected 3,210 passing yards with a 13/7 touchdown to interception ratio. Maurice Jones-Drew is the only hope this team has of keeping this game competitive. Jacksonville will be traveling to the Razor to face the Patriots in frigid temperatures. The Jaguars are criticized anyway of not being tough enough, now the boys from Florida have to buckle up their chin straps to play Brady’s bunch in December on the road. The weakness of New England has been their run defense. However, the offensive line for Jacksonville has not been impressive of late and in the cold weather expect them to lack effort. The current NFL lines show the Patriots favored by 8 points over the Jags with an over/under sitting at 44 points.
The Patriots, while 9-5, have been anything but unbeatable. We are so used to seeing Tom Brady and this explosive offense walk up and down the field on anybody that dares step onto the gridiron. This year though the Pats are averages 280 passing yards per game which is one of the worst totals at this point for them in quite a while. The running game has shown signs of life as Laurence Maroney will be counted on to play a big role come playoff time. The defense has been better then most people give them credit for allowing only 17 points per game which is amongst the league’s best. DT’s Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren are listed as questionable but are expected to play Sunday. If so, this game could get real ugly real fast. Jaguars are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss.
Jaguars are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. loss.
Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in December.
Jaguars are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Jaguars are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games in Week 16.
Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a home favorite of 3.5-10.0.
Patriots are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in Week 16.
Patriots are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0.
New England Patriots average 26 points per game
Jacksonville Jaguars average 19 points per game
(+7 margin for the Pats)
New England Patriots allow 17 points against per game
Jacksonville Jaguars allow 23 points against per game
(+6 margin for the Pats)
That is a +13 margin of victory for New England not factoring in experience in weather conditions and December games with playoff sports and seeding at stake. Coach Belichek will have his best game of the year from the sideline as you will see nothing short of a Patriots blowout today. The Jags slim playoff hopes will end quickly as the time of year and location will be overwhelming. As stated above expect Brady and Moss to connect frequently and for the offense to hit the 30+ point mark with ease. FREE PLAY and prediction below.
