Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Chicago Bears NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Saturday the Chicago Bears are in need of a win, as their most recent loss the Vikings, has them once again looking up in the NFC North. The Bears hope to do just that this weekend, when they invite the Jacksonville Jaguars to the cold of the Midwest. The Bears had their chances against the Vikings last week, but when it was all said and done, they wound up getting beat 34-14. The Jaguars added to their disappointing season last week, as they fell on Monday Night Football to the Texans 30-17, and now are in last place of the AFC South. If you are looking to do some NFL betting this Sunday, the oddsmakers have the Bears 6.5 point favorites at home over the Jags at BetUS.com
To see the Jaguars sitting in last place in their own division, is something few saw coming when the season started. Last week against the Texans the Jaguars just couldn’t get anythign going till it was pretty much over in this one, as their only touchdowns came in the 4th quarter when the game was pretty much all but over. David Garrard had 287 yards and a score, but most of his success came late in the game, as Garrard failed to make the big plays when needed. The running game was better than it has been for the most part of this season, as Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew combined for 116 yards and a score, but this unit has to find a way to put points on the board before the game is over. This week they face a Bears defense that can play real tough, so its hard to imagine these guys breaking out this week.
The Jaguars defense wasn’t all that good, as they allowed Sage Rosenfels to throw for 200 yards and a score, but that wasn’t the worst of it, as they had no answer for rookie Steve Slaton, who ran it 21 times for 130 yards and 2 scores. Now its hard to explain the downfall of this unit, as this was one of the best defenses in the league over the last few seasons, and while their season is pretty much over, they can still show the fans and the rest of the league that this team will be back in business next season. Now the Bears have lost 3 of their last 4 games when they had a chance to really build a solid lead in the division, and now they get 3 home games to get back in the lead, that include games against the Packers and Saints. Last week against the Vikings the Bears jumped out early with a 65 yard pass to Devin Hester, but that was one of a few plays that went well for this offense. the Bears did get another score from rookie running back Matt Forte in the 3rd quarter to bring the Bears within 3, but that was the last thing this team could do. Kyle Orton was the reason for both the Bears scores, but the guy also had 3 interceptions, something the Bears just can have if they want to win games. Forte ran it well for 96 yards, but this team has to find a way to put more than 14 on the scoreboard.
The Bears defense just can’t seem to figure out if it wants to be good or bad this season, as they look great one week and then less than average the next. Last week against the Vikings they gave up 3 rushing touchdowns, including one to Adrian Peterson who had 131 yards on 28 carries. Now they did pick off Gus Frerotte, but they let the veteran quarterback throw for 210 yards and a score, which is an effort the Vikings will take every single week. This week the Bears face a Jags team that has struggled all season, and with the game at home, this unit has to step up and carry this team into the playoffs. Bet Bears -6.5 at BetUS.com
