Colts Jaguars Football

Each week it seems like a power falls, and yet there still isn’t much talk surrounding the Indianapolis Colts and their current 7 game winning streak that has them a near lock for the playoffs again this season, and this week they head to Jacksonville to take on the 5-9 Jaguars, who have been a complete disappointment this season. Last week the Colts made sure the Lions stayed winless with a 31-21 win at home, while the Jaguars actually showed some signs of life with a surprise 20-16 win over the Packers last Sunday. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting on the game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Colts 6.5 point favorites over the Jaguars at Sportsbook.com

Last week the Colts used a strong start and finish to make sure the Lions got another game closer to the worst season in NFL history. Peyton Manning threw for 318 yards and a score, including 12 tosses to tight end Dallas Clark who had 142 yards and the lone touchdown catch in the game. With Joseph Addai out of action Dominic Rhodes stepped in to run for 86 yards and 2 scores on 20 carries, and with Addai possibly out of action again this week it could be Rhodes who has to come up with another big game. The key is getting up early on the Jaguars, as their defense has shown signs of giving up when they are beat late in the game. Look for the Colts to just keep on cruising into the playoffs with yet another win.

The Colts defense wasn’t great letting the Lions score 21, as this game was actually tied at 21 with nearly 13 minutes left to go in the game. The defense let Dan Orlovsky step in and threw for 233 yards and a score, plus let rookie Kevin Smith run for 88 yards and a score. Now the defense had been playing great over the last few weeks, and it’s likely that they just didn’t come in all that focus to beat a team that has honestly looked like crap all season long. This week against the Jaguars if they can stop the run, and make the Jags a pass first offense then this one will likely be number 8 in a row for a team that could be staring its 2nd Super Bowl in 3 years straight in the eyes. Now the Jaguars and Colts had really started building a rivalry over the last few years, as the Jags looked like a team destined to become something more than just a 2nd place team, but this season has not wen there way, but a strong finish does give hope for next year. Last week against the Packers David Garrard went off for 238 yards and 2 scores, including 127 of those yards heading to Dennis Northcutt, who also had one of Garrard’s touchdown tosses. With Fred Taylor out for the rest of the season, Maurice Jones-Drew stepped in to take the bulk of the carries, but wound up just having 48 yards and a score on 12 carries. The Jags offense is going to need a lot to go right this week against the Colts, and its hard to imagine that happening against a Colts team that is clicking.

The Jaguars defense really stepped up and played well against a Packers team that really needed to win last week. The Jaguars allowed Aaron Rodgers just 278 yards and 1 touchdown, but also forced the quarterback into throwing an interception and had 3 sacks as well. Including two from Reggie Hayward who had 3 tackles and a forced fumble on the day as well. The Jaguars are really going to have to play well on defense this week, and if this is a team that lost by just 2 points to the Colts earlier this season in Indy. Bet Jacksonville Jaguars +6.5 at Sportsbook.com
