Jaguars vs. Colts Predictions

Written September 17, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Sunday Sept. 21 the Jacksonville Jaguars look to get on the board with a win, as they get ready to take on the Indianapolis Colts this weekend. The Jaguars suffered their second loss of the season last week against the Bills, while the Colts scored 18 unanswered points to beat the Vikings 18-15. Both teams play in the tough AFC South, and this win is going to be big for both teams.

The Jaguars continued struggle with a hurting offense line, and they tried to help the problem by signing guard Chris Naeole this week. What is normally one of the most dominant rushing attacks in the NFL with Jones-Drew and Fred Taylor, but they were able to just combine for 81 yards and zero touchdowns. Quarterback David Garrard struggled again throwing for just 165 yards and tossed one to the other team. Matt Jones led the way again with 50 yards receiving, but this unit as a whole has really got to get it going, or this team is going to be 0-3 and having a long way to go to get back to the playoffs.

The Jags defense did a good job of shutting down Marshawn Lynch, as they held him to just one score on 59 yards. But they didn’t do so good against the pass, as Trent Edwards tossed for 239 yards and a score. This isn’t good news as they get Manning and the Colts coming into town this weekend. Speaking of that Colts offense they really had to fight for the win last week, as they really struggled to get much going early on, but after a 58 yard bomb to Anthony Gonzalez and a 1 yd run by Joseph Addai to get them on the board, things really started to click. Manning still didn’t look like the former MVP, as he had 2 picks and just 1 interception, but he did throw for 311 yards, and 137 of them went to Gonzalez. Reggie Wayne scored the other touchdown on a 32 yard pass from Manning with nearly 6 minutes to go in the 4th. A Adam Vinatieri field goal with just 3 seconds to go gave them the win, and kept them from going 0-2. This unit has to get clicking if they want to take over the top spot in the AFC.

The Colts defense had its ups and downs, as they shutdown the passing game allowing just 119 yards, but they really struggled to stop the run again, as Adrian Peterson ran 29 times for 160 yards. Many think if they just would of ran the ball more it could of been a different story. This week they face that very dangerous duo of Jones-Drew and Taylor, who could be primed for a breakout week against this defense. Making things worse is the Colts are without 2007 Defensive Player of the year Bob Sanders, who is expected to miss 6 weeks. They have to stop the run, or this one will be a lot closer than it should. Bet Colts -5 at JustBet.com
