LeBron James 2008-09 NBA MVP Predictions
Written January 25, 2009 by Jason Lowry

With the NBA All-Star game approaching in just a few weeks, now is a great time to take a look at the first half of the 2008-09 NBA season, and see who is making that big push for the regular season MVP award. In my opinion there are five guys that are hands down performing better than the rest and thats LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, and Dwayne Wade. We are going to focus are attention on who many are talking is the leading candidate if the season were to end today, and thats LeBron James. Right now the Cavs are tied with the Lakers for the best record in the NBA at 34-8, but hold just a slim half game lead on the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference, and the Magic are close behind, just a 1.5 games back. James and the Cavaliers are running away with the Central Division, as they hold a 9.5 game lead over the Pistons, and the real story for this team is they are a perfect 20-0 at home this season. Here is a look at what James has done so far this season, and what I think are his chances of winning the MVP award this season.

What is scary about this guy, is its just his 6th season in the NBA, and this guy is already arguably the most dominant presence in the NBA. James is gearing to make his 5th straight All-Star game appearance, and has been named to the All-NBA First team two out of the last 3 years, including last season when he led the league in scoring at 30 points a game. Those numbers aren’t going to win LeBron the MVP this season, but what we are getting at, is this guy is only going to get better, and it looks like it might be this season where he finally takes over as the best the league has to offer. James comes in averaging 27.9 points, 6.8 assist, and 7.2 rebounds a game, and has taken the Cavaliers to the top of the NBA. Like Chris Paul and Kobe Bryant James is currently setting a career best in field goal percentage, as he is hitting over 49% of his shots. A couple things James has yet to develop is an outside shot, as he is hitting just 29% from the 3-point line, but when you can get to the rim like this guy, it really doesn’t matter what you do from the outside.
When it comes down to it James is having one of his best season’s overall of his career on the hardwood, and it shows in the Cavaliers record. If the Cavaliers can find a way to at least pull off the No.2 seed the Eastern Conference without letting the Celtics or Magic run away with the No.1 seed, you have to really like LeBron’s chances of taking home the award. With so many players having outstanding seasons on great teams, it’s going to be hard to determine just who is going to win, but you have to like what James brings to the table in what very well could be his first regular season MVP award.
