Super Bowl Odds: Edgerrin James Props

What a finish to the 2008-09 season it has been for Edgerrin James, who halfway through the regular season was pretty much benched by the Cardinals coaching staff, and many considered the once star running back to be washed up and headed out of the league. That has all quickly changed, as James went off in the season finale running it 14 times for 100 yards, but still there were doubters that he would be able to be a force in the playoffs. As anyone who has been following the playoffs knows that James has been a huge factor for the Cardinals emerging running game, as he is the leading rusher in the postseason this year with 203 yards. James whose days in Arizona may be over after the Super Bowl game against the Steelers this Sunday, faces his toughest challenge yet, as the Steelers have the leagues best rush defense. For those of you looking to do a NFL betting on the game this weekend, here is a look at the prop bets for Edgerrin James at Sportsbook.com.
Total Rushing Yards: Over 42.5 (-115) Under 42.5 (-115)
James has gone over this mark in each of the Cardinals 3 playoff games, but the Steelers have given up just 88 yards the entire postseason, so thinking that James is going to come in and have a huge game, is just something we don’t see happening. James will get his chances, but we don’t think he tops 30 yards rushing against this defense.
Total Rushing Attempts: Over 12.5 (-115) Under 12.5 (-115)
Before even looking at this prop I had figured that if the Cardinals are going to win they have to at least try and run the football, and while James won’t receive many, if any touches in the red zone, we like him to carry it about 13-14 times in this one.
Longest Rush From Scrimmage: Over 9.5 (-115) Under 9.5 (-115)
James has had a bunch of good runs this postseason, but the Steelers are just too good at stopping the run, and we understand that they are going to have to really focus on stopping the pass, but we still don’t see James going for more that 6-7 yards on any given carry.
Will He Score a TD: Yes (+280) No (-360)
James has only scored 4 touchdowns all season including the playoffs and regular season, so to think he is going to score against the Steelers is pretty much ridiculous. We aren’t saying it can’t be done, but James doesn’t even get the carries in the red zone, as Tim Hightower takes over inside the 20.
Total Receiving Yards: Over 7.5 (-115) Under 7.5 (-115)
James has had one catch in each of the 3 playoff games, and each have went for more than 7 yards, including a 16 yard catch and run he had against the Steelers in the NFC Championship game. We think if James is going to do damage in this game it will come more from dump passes than running, so we are saying he hauls in one for more than 7 yards in the Super Bowl.
Total Rushing Yards on First Attempt: Over 2.5 (-120) Under 2.5 (-120)
We are going under all day on this one, as James will likely get a carry on the Cardinals first series, and you know that the Steelers are going to be ready for it. 2.5 yards isn’t much, so this could go the other way, but we think the safe bet is on the under.
