New York Jets vs. San Francisco 49ers NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written December 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

It didn’t take long for the New York Jets to come back to the rest of the AFC, as just a week after beating the Titans and being named one of the big threats in the AFC this season, the Jets got embarrassed on their home field by the Broncos 34-17. This week the Jets will look to get back on the right track when they head out west to take on the San Francisco 49ers who are coming off a very impressive 10-3 win over the Bills last week. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting on the game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Jets 3.5 point favorites on the road over the 49ers at BetUS.com

Now the Jets better get their act together on the road this week, or they can go from having a solid lead in the division to them fighting for a playoff spot again. Last week against the Broncos Brett Farve just wasn’t on his game. He did throw for 247 yards but was unable to throw a TD pass and had a costly interception. The bright spot of the Jets offense was once again Thomas Jones who ran it just 16 times for 138 yards and 2 scores, and you have to wonder why they didn’t give the ball to him more early. This week the Jets face a 49ers defense that is great against the pass giving up just 161 yards a game, but they have really struggled against the run, so we expect another big performance from Jones this week, and wouldn’t be surprised to see Leon Washington get in on the mix as well.

The Jets defense had really been playing some great football over the last few weeks, but last week they simply had no answer for the Broncos offense, as Jay Cutler had 357 yards and 2 touchdown passes, while rookie Peyton Hillis running for 129 yards and a score. Now its very likely that this team put so much effort in beating the Titans that it just didn’t have enough left in the tank last week against the Broncos. Now hopefully this team learned its lesson that they have to come prepared each and every week or they are going to lose, cause if they don’t come ready to go against the 49ers this week they could easily lose their 2nd straight. The 49ers are really starting to show signs under new head coach Mike Singletary, as they have now won 2 of their last 3, and have been in a number of games since he has taken over as coach during the middle of the season. Last week against the Bills the offense wasn’t spectacular, as the only touchdown came on a 12 yard strike from Shaun Hill to Isaac Bruce. Now Hill only had 161 yards passing and the running game wasn’t much better as Frank Gore had just 66 yards on the ground, but the offense did what it took to win. Now this week against the Jets it will likely take a little more than 10 points to take home the win, but we really like how this team is playing, and if the Jets don’t come to play they can easily win this game.

Now a lot has to be said about just how good the 49ers defense played on the road last week, as they just turned it on when the Bills got in the redzone. Now they got some help from the Bills, as Ryan Lindell missed 2 of the 3 field goals, and the Bills went for it 4th down on a couple occasions and were unable to succeed. Now stopping the Jets this weekend is not going to be easy, but we really think the 49ers can pull off the win this weekend, but they have to play one heck of a game on this side of the ball.
