All of the Green Bay fans are heartbroken, but Jets fans are excited about what the new season might bring with future Hall of Famer Brett Favre now under center. Favre is switching teams after spending the last 16 years with the Packers. It seemed unthinkable to see this guy in another jersey, but after management refused to allow Favre to come out of retirement and take back over their team, it was time for both to move in different directions. All it took for the Jets was a pick in next year’s draft based on Favre’s performance this year. The Jets are hoping the addition of Favre can rejuvenate a fan base that takes a backseat in the New York media to the Giants, especially in a season after that team brought home the Super Bowl trophy.
After making the playoffs in 2006, the Jets struggled to a 4-12 season. The team is relying on Favre to return them to a promise land, but it will be tough playing in the AFC East with the almighty New England Patriots, who have a pretty good quarterback of their own in Tom Brady. It’ll be interesting to see just how quickly Favre can pick up the new system and get in sync with his new offense. He showed last year that he still has the skills even at 38. He had one of the best years of his illustrious career, throwing for more than 4100 yards (which helped him surpass Dan Marino for most career passing yards) and leading his team to a 13-3 record and an overtime loss away from the Super Bowl. He also gets a chance to extend his consecutive games streak to 276 games by taking over the starting job for the Jets. It would have seemed impossible for the Packers to let that steak come to an end by sitting Favre on the pine while they marched out Aaron Rodgers for the first snap in their game against the Vikings. To add more drama to the game, New York will be taking on a Dolphin team led by Chad Pennington, who started for the Jets the past eight seasons before being released after the acquisition of Favre. Pennington would love nothing more than to help lead Miami to a victory here over the team that recently spurned him. The problem with Pennington though is that he has had trouble staying helathy, but he did overcome two rotator cuff surgeries before leading the Jets to ten wins in 2006, when he was named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year.
Miami will be playing their first game under new head coach Tony Sparano, who was a former assistant to new general Bill Parcells when the two were in Dallas. He takes over a team that was the worst in the league last year at 1-15. If you think the Dolphins +3 spread is worth taking, then do it at BetUS and get a 50% signup bonus on your initial deposit.
Predicted Score: Jets 20, Dolphins 17
