Jones Playing Last Game With Jets?
Written January 24, 2010 by Jason Lowry
The New York Jets are set to take on the Indianapolis Colts today in the AFC Championship, but are attention is on the future of running back Thomas Jones. According to the Indianapolis Star Jones could be let go at the end of this season. Jones is owed a $3 million roster bonus on March 1, and there are many that don’t think the Jets will be willing to pay a 31-year-old back that kind of money.
A big reason that the Jets can part ways with Jones, is the outstanding play of rookie Shonn Greene, who has been a staple point in the Jets offense this postseason rushing for over a 100 yards in both Jets wins. The Jets also have Leon Washington coming back next season, and that would once again give the Jets a great 1-2 punch in the running game.
I think it would be wise for the Jets to let Jones go. I know he has had his best years on the wrong side of 30, but that can’t last forever and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a decline in his production as soon as next year. Whatever the Jets do will haveĀ a big impact on their 2010 NFL odds.
