Editors Note: Professional handicapper Jason Lowry has a big play coming in this weeks NFL Thursday action, as he is putting out his NFL 5 STAR can’t miss game of the week!

This Thursday the New England Patriots and New York Jets square off for first place in the AFC East, as both teams sit at 6-3, with the Patriots holding the edge thanks to a 19-10 win over the Jets on the road in Week 2. Last week the Patriots took care of business against the Bills 20-10, while the Jets had the biggest win in franchise history when they beat the Rams by 44 points. The oddsmakers are picking the Pats to sweep the series, as the Patriots come in 3 point favorites at home over the Jets at BetUS.com

The ho really looked good against the Rams last week, and they didn’t need just Brett Farve’s arm to do it, as Thomas Jones ran for 149 yards and 3 scores, while Leon Washington added another 54 yards on 12 carries. Favre threw for just 167 yards including a 1 yard touchdown strike to rookie Dustin Keller, who led the Jets in receiving with 107 yards on 6 catches. Now the big stat for Favre this week, was he didn’t throw an interception, which is something he hadn’t done since the first week of the season. Last time against the Patriots the Jets were able to score just one touchdown, and its not going to get any easier on the road this week.

Now the Jets defense should come into this one pretty well rested, as they didn’t have to do much last week against the Rams. The Rams had just 200 yards of total offense, with just 80 yards on the ground. Last time against the Pats they allowed Matt Cassel to make his first start of the season, and throw for 165 yards, but did hold the Patriots to just 104 yards on the ground, but that was before the Patriots run game got a boost from BenJarvus Green-Ellis. We think this one will be close the whole way, so the Jets definitely have a shot at winning this one. Bet Jets +3 at BetUS.com

The Patriots had a pretty big day against the free-falling Bills, as Matt Cassel threw the ball well completing 23 of 34 passes for 234 yards, plus a 13 yard touchdown run to get the Patriots on the board first. BenJarvus Green-Ellis was a force in his first game as the primary back, as he carried it 26 times for 105 yards and a score. Its not going to be an easy game for the Patriots this week, but they seem to be clicking and figuring out just what it has to do to win games without Tom Brady as their starting quarterback.

The Patriots defense was all over the Bills last week, as they gave up just 180 yards of total offense. They were all over Trent Edwards in this one, as they sacked Edwards 2 times and got the quarterback to throw 2 interceptions. The Pats also shutdown the running game, as Marshawn Lynch had just 46 yards on 14 attempts, and the Bills totaled just 60 yards on the ground. Now we don’t expect that same kind of performance against Favre and the Jets, but this defense has already showed once this season that they can give the Jets all kinds of problems.
