2010 John Deere Classic Predictions
Written by Jason Lowry
Last week at the AT&T National Justin Rose was able to win for the second time in his last three starts, pushing him into second place on the FedEx Cup points standings. This week the tour heads to Illinois for the 2010 John Deere Classic held at TPC Deere Run, the event also marks the final stop before the tour heads overseas for the British Open.
Many of the top golfers will be playing overseas in the Barclays Scottish Open, as it allows players a much better chance of preparing themselves for the third major of the season. There are are still a number of good golfers that will be in action this week, and here is a look at the three guys I feel have the best chance at coming away with a win this weekend.
Zach Johnson: I believe there is a great chance that we will see Johnson win for the second time this season, as he comes to an event where he has to feel extremely comfortable, playing so close to his home town. Johnson won earlier this season at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, but hasn’t been very impressive since, with his best finish a tie for 12th at the St Jude Classic. Johnson was right there in contention last year, finishing tied for second at this event, and I feel like there is an excellent chance he is right there with a chance to win on Sunday this year.
K.J. Choi: Here is another guy that is coming into the event this weekend as one of the favorites to come away with the trophy. Choi has yet to miss a cut on the PGA Tour this season, and his game appears to be a great fit for the course this weekend. Choi comes in fourth in scoring average at 69.9, thanks to solid putting and excellent iron play. Choi has only turned that into two top ten finishes, but I think that will change with a strong finish this weekend. This will be Choi’s first start at this event, but I don’t think it will be enough to keep him out of contention.
Bubba Watson: This will be the first start since Watson won for the first time on the PGA Tour at the Travelers Championship a couple weeks ago, and I have a good feeling that he is going to come out firing. Watson has been flirting with wins all season, as he finished third at the Transitions Championship, and tied for second at the Bob Hope Classic. Watson comes into the tournament first in birdies per round at 4.2. He can hit the ball a mile off the tee, and has been very good whether he finds the fairway or not. Watson is 9th in greens in regulation, and if he gets the putter going he could easily jump out to an early lead this weekend with a couple low scores on Thursday and Friday.
