Kansas City Chiefs vs. Oakland Raiders NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 28, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This Sunday it might not be pretty when the 1-10 Kansas City Chiefs take on the 3-8 Oakland Raiders, but one thing is for sure, and that is these two teams hate each other and want nothing more than to win this football game. The Raiders already went into KC earlier this year and handed the Chiefs a 23-8 loss at home, but a lot has changed, as both teams are starting to play some better football. Last week the Chiefs just couldn’t keep pace with the Bills, as they fell 54-31 at home, while the Raiders stunned the Broncos, beating the division leaders 31-10 on the road. For those of you looking to do some NFL betting this week, the oddsmakers have the Raiders 3 point favorites at home over the Chiefs at Bookmaker.com

Now the Chiefs might be playing better football, but they aren’t turning into wins, as the Chiefs have now lost 7 straight since beating the Broncos in week 4, and now have lost 19 of their last 20 games over the last two seasons. Now last week the Chiefs actually out gained the Bills, but the Chiefs had 5 turnovers that resulted in 20 Bills points, and you can start to see the Chiefs players getting a little worked up over the teams rough go of late. Tyler Thigpen threw for 3 scores, but was responsible for 3 Chiefs turnovers, as he thew 2 interceptions and had a fumble to go along with it. This week the Chiefs play a not so bad Raiders defense, but a win this week would be huge for this team heading into the final 4 games of the season.

The Chiefs defense might not of got much help from the offense last week with all the turnovers, but there has to be some blame put on this unit if 54 points are on the scoreboard. They had no answer for Bills quarterback Trent Edwards, as Edwards threw for 273 yards and 2 scores, plus had two rushing touchdowns on top of it. This week they face a Raiders offense that ran wild on them earlier this season, as the Raiders ran for 300 yards, led by rookie Darren McFadden who had 164 yards and a score. Now the Chiefs have to find away to figure out how to stop teams and finish this season strong, and the Raiders are definitely a team these guys can beat. Bet Chiefs +3 at Bookmaker.com

With the surprising win over the Broncos last week, the Raiders snapped a 4 games losing streak of their own, as the Raiders scored two 4th quarter touchdowns to put this one away for good, as it was just a 7 point game heading into the final quarter. The Raiders were running the ball well last week, as Justin Fargas ran for 107 yards, while McFadden needed just 10 carries to grab 38 yards and 2 scores, and these guys have to be thankful that KC comes to town this weekend. JaMarcus Russell was very sharp throwing the football, as he completed 10 of 11 passes for 152 yards including a 4 yard strike to former Bronco Ashley Lelie. Look for the Raiders to carry over there success from last week to their game against the Chiefs this week.

Now the Raiders pass defense has been the story over the last few weeks, as they first held Jake Delhomme to just 72 yards and 4 scores, then kept Chad Pennington in check for 174 yards, and last week they kept Jay Cutlers strong arm in check, allowing just 204 yards and another interception. This week Tyler Thigpen comes to town, and if the Raiders can slow this guy down and make him make mistakes, the Bills showed it will likely lead to points for the opposing team. Now stopping Thigpen is not the only concern this week, as the Raiders can’t let the Chiefs run game get going. Bet Raiders -3 at Bookmaker.com
