Kansas vs. Missouri Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 26, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Now while all the talk about Big 12 football surrounds the trio of teams fighting for 1st in the South division, the Missouri Tigers are sitting quietly atop the Big 12 North, where they will eventually get a shot at whoever wins the South for a shot to play in a BCS Bowl game. First the Tigers have to take care of business against rival Kansas, as the Jayhawks look to finish the Big 12 regular season at .500. Neither team has played in two weeks, so there is no question that they will be ready to go in this one. For those of you looking to bet NCAA football this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Missouri Tigers 16 point favorites at home over the Jayhawks at BetUS.com

The Jayhawks had to enjoy the week off, as they suffered a beating in their last game against Texas 35-7 at home. Now it wasn’t too bad of game to start as the Jayhawks trailed by 14-0 going into the 2nd half, but by the time Kansas got points on the board it was 21-0, and by the end of the 3rd the game reached its final score at 35-7. Kansas only score came on a 9 yard touchdown pass from Todd Reesing to Dexton Fields, but that won’t win you games against the Big 12’s best the way they can put points on the board. Reesing did throw for 258 yards in this one, but was was just 50% on his 50 attempts, as he had no help in the running game that totaled just 47 yards the whole game. If the Jaybawks are going to beat Missouri this week, they have to put more than 7 points on the scoreboard.

Now not only will the Jayhawks have to put plenty of points up in this one, they are going to have to find some way to slow down Chase Daniels and the Tigers air attack. Now holding Texas to just 35 points was an accomplishment in its self, so you have to think they have the talent to at least keep this one close. Now the fact that Kansas plays in the Big 12 and has 6 wins it will likely get a shot at a Bowl game, but that 7th win makes it a lock. Bet Kansas +16 at BetUS.com

Now Missouri crushed the Cyclones in their last game 52-20, but we are a little worried that this team might have a slight melt down, as this game only really effects the bowl game they get in, and even with a loss they could still wind up playing in a BCS bowl game, but we expect head coach Gary Pinkel to make sure this team comes ready to play. Against the Cyclones Chase Daniels threw one of his two touchdown passes to Tommy Saunders from just 3 yards out to get the scoring going, and next thing you knew it was over, as the Tigers put up 24 in the 2nd quarter. Derrick Washing did the majority of the running in this one, and wound up running for 128 yards and two scores on just 11 carries. Daniels had a typical day for the senior quarterback, as he was 32 of 40 for 328 yards. Now Kansas can play defense, but like Texas Tech showed, they can also be picked apart, so it will be interesting to see what we get out of the Tigers offense this weekend.

The Tigers defense gave up over 440 yards to the Cyclones, as they really don’t have a defense that is going to keep the other team from putting points on the board, and is likely why this team is not undefeated right now. The defense did help out the offense last week, as William Moore took one of two Cyclone interceptions back to the house for a touchdown. Now Kansas is going to score this week, but its hard to think they can keep up with the Tigers offense in this one. Bet Missouri -16 at BetUS.com
