Kansas State at Texas A&M

The 11th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies had their 13-game winning streak come to a halt on Wednesday. Now they’ll be looking to keep another 13-game winning streak alive when they host the Kansas State Wildcats Saturday. The Aggies have won 13 straight home games and will be taking on a Wildcats team that is reeling right now. The odds for this Big 12 showdown are set with a line of Texas A&M -5 over Kansas State and a total of 134 points..
Texas A&M (16-2, 3-1) lost at No. 10 Texas Wednesday by a final of 81-60, snapping their longest winning streak in 90 years. After playing flawless defense for most of the season, the Aggies have struggled on this end of the floor in back-to-back games. They were fortunate to escape with a 91-89 overtime victory at home over then-No. 15 Missouri last Saturday. The Tigers shot 52.2 percent from the floor in that contest. It got worse against the Longhorns, as Texas connected on 58 percent of their field goal attempts. Coming into these two games, Texas A&M was holding opponents to 37.7 percent on the season.
The Aggies top two scorers in Khris Middleton and David Loubeau were held in check Wednesday, as they combined for just 23 points in the loss to Texas. Middleton is averaging 15.8 PPG while Loubeau is putting up 11.2 PPG this season. Texas A&M is much less worried about their offense than their defense, though. Returning home could solve those issues as the Aggies are 11-0 at Reed Arena where they are giving up just 58.1 PPG and limiting opponents to 38.6 percent shooting.
Kansas State (13-6, 1-3) could provide a challenge for the Aggies as they are going to be playing desperate basketball. This Wildcats team came in with high expectations, but they clearly haven’t been living up to them nor their potential this season. Kansas State was ranked No. 3 in the AP poll coming into the year, and just a few hours after getting knocked out of the Top 25 the Wildcats went on to lose at Missouri 75-59 on Monday.
Turnovers are the main reason the Wildcats just can’t seem to get anything to go right for them. Kansas State committed 24 turnovers with only 8 assists against the Tigers, and in four Big 12 games they have 75 turnovers to 53 assists. Jacob Pullen and Curtis Kelly were supposed to carry the load for this team, but each has been a disappointment and both were suspended for a few games earlier in the season.
Kelly scored only four points while turning the ball over six times, while Pullen went just 4-of-11 from the floor with 16 points and one assist against Missouri. Head coach Frank Martin has stated that he needs more from both players if this team is going to turn it around. Pullen is averaging 17.8 points per game this year but on 42.6 percent shooting. The Wildcats have won their last two meetings with the Aggies. They beat Texas A&M 65-60 in their last trip to Reed Arena.
BetUS Projected Score: Texas A&M 70 – Kansas State 65
