Kansas vs. Texas Football Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 11, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Professional Handicapper Jason Lowry has his NCAA FOOTBALL 10 STAR PLAY OF THE WEEK going in the Texas Kansas game this weekend.

The Texas Longhorns moved up a spot to No. 4 this week, and there is still a good shot this team will get a shot at a BCS Bowl game this season, but with only two teams allowed out of one conference either Oklahoma or Texas is likely going be left out, as it will be hard for them to leave Texas Tech out of the picture with the way they have played. First the Longhorns have to take care of business against the Kansas Jayhawks, who are still in the hunt for the North division, as they sit just 1 game behind Missouri. Even with the game at Kansas the oddsmakers are thinking all Longhorns, as Texas comes in 13.5 point favorites over Kansas at Sportsbook.com

Last week the Longhorns were all business against Baylor, as the Longhorns took home a 45-21 victory. It was yet again the Colt McCoy show, as McCoy racked up 300 yards through the air with 5 touchdown passes. McCoy did have two interceptions in this one, but its McCoy that is winning this team games. The Longhorns added another 194 yards on the ground, led by Foswhitt Whittaker and Vondrell McGee led the way with 132 yards on 35 carries. The Longhorns offense is such a force they were able to run 84 plays from scrimmage with 47 on the ground and 37 attempts through the air. If Kansas doesn’t find a way to score point for point with this team, or somehow slow them down, its going to be over after the 1st quarter.

The Longhorns defense did a good job making sure Baylor didn’t have a shot in this one, as they gave up just 21 points, with 7 of them coming in the 4th quarter when the Longhorns already had it wrapped up. Ryan Palmer helped out the offense with a 22 interception return for a touchdown, and if the defense is scoring points, there are few teams if any that will be able to beat this team. Kansas has a very tough finish to the season, as they not only have to deal with Texas this week, but have to face a very strong Missouri team on the road the following week. With the team 6-4 its likely that even if they lose their final two games they will still get rewarded with a bowl game, because of how strong the Big 12 is this season. Last week the Jayhawks just didn’t have enough offense to keep up with Nebraska, as they fell 45-35 on the road. Quarterback Todd Reesing helped out the team as much as he could throwing for 304 yards and 3 scores, plus an additional 35 yards and a score on the ground. Reesing will have to have the game of his life if Kansas plans on pulling off the huge upset.

The Jayhawks defense has to know they aren’t going to stop the Texas offense this week, they just have to hope they can create some big plays and keep the Longhorns from putting up 60 points in this one. Now playing at home should give this unit a little extra help, but if you remember at how much the struggled to stop Texas Tech at home, its hard to imagine they are going to have better success against Texas. The Jayhawks can play well enough to cover the spread in this one, so if you think this one will at least be close, bet Kansas +13.5 at Sportsbook.com
