Kansas vs. Texas Tech College Football Betting Lines

Written October 28, 2009 by Kyle Hunter

Both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Kansas Jayhawks are coming off a disappointing loss at home last weekend. The Red Raiders were crushed 52-30 by the Aggies of Texas A&M, while Kansas was humbled 35-13 by the Oklahoma Sooners. For both of these teams this is going to be a pivotal game to determine whether or not they will be a real player in the Big 12 race. Want to wager on games such as this one? Texas Tech’s loss last weekend came as a pretty big surprise, especially considering the fact that they were coming off a dominant win at Nebraska the week before. The quarterback position at Texas Tech is in limbo right now because of injuries, and that is definitely hurting this football team. Taylor Potts started the season at quarterback, but was knocked out with a concussion and replaced by Steven Sheffield, who excelled before sustaining a foot injury himself. Last weekend Potts was the starter, but he was pulled later in the game and freshman Seth Doege was inserted into the lineup. This is the first time in Mike Leach’s 10 year career at Texas Tech that he has had an injured quarterback at all, and this year he has had two. The offense is still very capable of moving the football well, as witnessed by their 488 yards per game. The defense had been showing a lot of improvement this year, but last week’s debacle against Texas A&M where they allowed 553 yards raised more questions about that unit. See what NCAA Football picks the experts have for this weekend.

Kansas was 5-1 entering last week and they had an injured Oklahoma team on their home field, but they were unable to get the signature win they so badly needed. In fact, the Jayhawks were never really in the game. The Oklahoma defense proved too tough and turnovers sealed the deal. Quarterback Todd Reesing is the team leader on offense and outside of last weekend’s disappointment against Oklahoma he has been great this year. Reesing has thrown 15 touchdowns and thrown for 2,203 yards. The Jayhawks have one of the best wide receiver tandems in the country in Dezmon Briscoe and Kerry Meier. The running game has been good against lesser competition, but it has yet to prove a viable weapon against the best of the best. The Kansas defense started the season giving up only 3 and 7 points in their first two games, but they have given up an average of 35 points per game in their last 3. Learn how to bet on football!

The Red Raiders are 6.5 point home favorites in this Big 12 matchup. The Jayhawks have been a good road team, going 12-4 against the spread in their last 16 road games. The over looks like the best bet from a trend standpoint since the over is 5-0 in Texas Tech’s last 5 home games and 6-1 in the Jayhawks last 7 road games. Want other picks from experts? The uncertainty at quarterback for Texas Tech makes this game difficult to read, but no matter who plays quarterback for the Red Raiders expect plenty of points in this one. The Jayhawks looked legitimate earlier this season, but the loss at Colorado really said a lot about this team. Texas Tech should rebound and cover in this one.
