Kent State at Penn State Odds

This Saturday the Kent State Golden Flashes will head to State College, Pennsylvania to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Golden Flashes come into the game 1-1, as they fell to Boston College 26-13 last week. The Nittany Lions are also 1-1 on the season, as they were no match for No.1 ranked Alabama last week, losing 24-3. Looking at the odds for the game this week, the oddsmakers have the Nittany Lions 21.5-point favorites over the Golden Flashes at home.
Kent State actually played pretty well against Boston College last week, as they trailed by just 3-points after the first half. The Golden Flashes however let the Eagles get things going in the second half, while their offense continued to struggle. The Golden Flashes only touchdown came late in the fourth quarter of a 32-yard pass from Spencer Keith to Dri Archer. Keith finished the game with 201 yards on 23 of 36 passing, but really hurt himself and the team with two costly interceptions.
The Golden Flashes were absolutely terrible running the ball last week, as they managed just four rushing yards the entire game. Hard to imagine they will have much more success this week against a pretty good Nittany Lion defense.
Penn State was clearly outmatched last week against Alabama, as they didn’t put points up on the board until the fourth quarter, when Collin Wagner connected on a 36 yard field goal. Freshman quarterback Robert Bolden found out what it was like to play one of the best defenses in the country, as he managed just 144 yards passing with two interceptions.
Starting running back Evan Royster also had his struggles against the Crimson Tide, as he managed just 32 yards on nine carries. The defense had its struggles as well last week, as they gave up 409 yards of total offense to Alabama. I expect a big bounce back on both sides of the ball this week against Kent State.
Looking at the Odds: I am going to take the Golden Flashes to cover the 21.5 point spread this weekend. The Nittany Lions are going to still be banged up from the beating they took last week on both sides of the ball from Alabama, and the Golden Flashes have enough offense to at least put a couple touchdowns on the board. I look for the Penn State offense to struggle early on this week, before finally finding a groove and securing the win.
The Golden Flashes are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win, and are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. My final score prediction is Penn State 34, Kent State 17.
Got something to say?
