College Football Betting: Kentucky vs Auburn Odds

Written October 16, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

The Wildcats are 2-3 on the season and are truly one of the SEC’s wildcard teams every weekend. One thing you can surely say about this team is they have no problem stepping onto the gridiron to face the very best. So far this season they faced Florida, Alabama and South Carolina. While losing all of those games, it gives them confidence in big spots going forward (only lost by 2 points at South Carolina). Head coach Rich Brooks is on the hot seat right now, his program has not succeeded as he has hoped to date and this game can really help his case big time. Quarterback Mike Hartline needs to play an under control game, he has thrown for 792 yards with 6 touchdowns to 6 interceptions. Derrick Locke has been decent running for 333 yards with 3 touchdowns so far this year. Defensively the Wildcats have not been as strong as they hoped they’d be. With the exception of their 42-0 win week one vs Miami (OH), they have allowed an average of 33.5 points per game. Now, as I stated above they faced the two top teams in the nation along with the Gamecocks so far, today the Auburn Tigers bring one of the top offensive units in the conference to the table. It will be interesting to see how the offense plans to attack Auburn. If Kentucky can run the ball well and sustain long drives, it will give the defense confidence and the rest they need to keep this game close.  The current NCAA football lines have installed Auburn as a 13.5 point favorite with a total set for 56.5 points.

The Auburn Tigers suffered their first loss of the season last weekend getting pounded 44-23 at Arkansas (a game I predicted correctly). One game though, no need to panic. Not one person thought they would be 5-0 to start the year, so this team still has a ton of upside and hope for this season. QB Chris Todd has been spectacular overall throwing for 1,363 yards with 13 touchdowns to only 1 interception. The running back combo Auburn fields is as good as any in the nation. Ben Tate is a stud who has collected 724 yards with 4 touchdowns averaging 6.1 yards per carry. His backup, Onterio McCalebb has rushed for 439 yards with 4 touchdowns and 6.0 yards per carry. The O-line is stout and look for Auburn to try to enforce the run today in a big way. The receivers are above average, Darvin Adams is the main man, he has collected 387 yards with 5 touchdowns while Terrell Zachary is the big play threat who has 329 yards with 4 TDs. So as you can see the offense is very good. The defense though, is not. They allow 27 points per game and gave up 30 points to Ball State this season in a game where they won big but if you watched it, were not impressive. The x-factor for the home team today will be Chris Todd. Am I taking the easy way out here? maybe, but we all saw how his team performed last weekend when Todd had his worst performance by far. Kentucky has a decent secondary, if they get pressure on the QB and give their corners a chance to make plays, Auburn will be in for a much tougher game then expected.  Did you know you can get an unlimited 10% deposit bonus when you open a new account with Bodog?

Haimo’s Hot Notes:

Auburn is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games

Kentucky is 4-9 ATS in its last 13 games

13.5 points is a lot to lay for a team in Auburn who has given up more around the same amount of points as Kentucky but has played FAR easier competition. Kentucky is a solid team who has an above average secondary. Trends, stats and most people will tell you to take the Tigers in this game. I am going the other way. Expect a slow, hard hitting and cohesive game plan by Rich Brooks as he will try to keep it close and steal the game late.
