Kentucky Derby Predictions 2008

With the Kentucky Derby set to get started in just a matter of weeks, its time to reveal our predictions for this historic horse racing event. The Derby has its share of upsets just like any other sporting event, just think back to 2005 when Giacomo stunned everyone and won the race. There is also year’s in which the favorite is able to live up to the expectations and take home the victory. The thing that makes this race so hard to predict is that it is so early in the 3-year-old horses careers that you just don’t know what to expect. Many of them are inexperienced and others are just not at their full potential this early in the season. So after an in-depth look at each horse we have narrowed our list down and have a 1-2-3 you might not have seen coming. While it will probably safer if you were to bet these three horses to finish any where in the top 3, here is our prediction on who we think will be heading to the winner circle in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby.

Online Horse Betting

1. Colonel John 5/1 odds at Bodoglife.com

This 3-year-old horse comes from California where they just haven’t so lucky at the Kentucky Derby, but we feel that will all change after the 2008 Kentucky Derby when Colonel John takes home the minor upset over an over hyped Big Brown. This horse will have no trouble with the distance this race brings, and has never finished worse than 2nd in 6 starts. Veteran Jockey Corey Nakatani is set to lead this horse on its first ever dirt track race. I am sure many of you have read about Colonel John and never racing on dirt before, but he comes from a strong family of dirt racers, and if this horse was to have raced on dirt his odds would be even better to win. There is no way this horse finishes out of the top 3.

2. Pyro 7/1 odds at Bodoglife.com

Pyro is a little different story, he was once proclaimed to be the favorite heading into Kentucky Derby, but his 10th place showing at the G1 Blue Grass at Keeneland. It was the horses first time on a synthetic surface, and it just didn’t go to well. The horse has already taken home two victories this year at the Risen Star Stakes and the Louisiana Derby. So if you planned on writing off this horse because of one bad start, then that is where you would of went wrong. We strongly feel that this horse will also finish in the top 3, and might easily take home the victory if Colonel John slips up.

3. Court Vision 20/1 odds at Bodoglife.com

Here is horse that you might not heard a lot about, as his odds to win aren’t as flashy as some of the other horses coming into the race. The thing is we just aren’t sure how this horse comes in with these kinds of odds. Court Vision has already proven it can run on this surface, with his first place finish at Churchill Downs for the Iroguios Stakes. Court Vision also has one of the best trainers in the game in Bill Mott, and to top it off Jockey Garret Gomez is well known for his big race capability. This horse is a true sleeper to some and the favorite for others. We strongly feel that this is a safe bet to finish in the top 3, as he is the most likely horse to win this race with these kinds of odds.
