Kentucky v. Georgia Football Picks & Predictions
Written November 6, 2008 by Jack Jones

The No. 14 Georgia Bulldogs will try to rebound from their embarrassing blowout loss last week to the Florida Gators when they head to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats. The Bulldogs had won three straight games before their showdown with the Gators in Jacksonville, but after the big loss the team has almost no shot at the SEC Championship or a BCS game. Kentucky is already bowl eligible at 6-3, but needs a few more wins to get into a better bowl. They might have a tough time here against the Bulldogs though as they have gone 48-11 in the series and lost 10 of the last 11 matchups. Bookmaker has Georgia listed as an 11-point favorite over Kentucky with the total set at 44.5.
Last week wasn’t pretty for the Bulldogs, especially for starting quarterback Matthew Stafford who threw three interceptions. Knowshon Moreno was also a no-show with only 65 yards, but he still has 990 yards ont he year and 12 touchdowns. Stafford has stilled completed 60.7% of his passes for 2,211 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he now has eight picks on the year. AJ Green is the leading receiver with 44 receptions for 753 yards and five touchdowns.
The Bulldog defense has given up 23.4 ppg so far this season while allowing opponents to gain 306.4 ypg. Georgia has allowed opponents to score 12 rushing touchdowns and 16 passing touchdowns. They are stronger against the rush, allowing 88.9 ypg, than they are against the pass, where they give up 217.6 ypg. Georgia hasn’t been able to pressure the quarterback like they have in years past, getting to the quarterback just 16 times and forcing only 11 turnovers. The Georgia defense might be able to get back on track against a Kentucky offense that has struggled to put points on the board, scoring just 21.9 ppg on 312.9 total ypg. With less than four yards per carry and 10 yards per pass attempt, the Wildcats really don’t stand out in any way. It certainly doesn’t help that the Wildcats will be without their leading wide receiver in Dicky Lyons and their top running back in Derrick Locke the rest of the season. Both players were lost for the year to injuries.
The Wildcat defense has given up just 17.7 ppg, and that includes a horrific 63 points to Florida two weeks ago. Teams are having a tough time running and passing the ball against Kentucky and last week this unit went on the road and held Mississippi State to only 13 points, impressive for any SEC school.
