Kentucky at Mississippi

In SEC action this Saturday the Kentucky Wildcats will head to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to take on the Mississippi Rebels. Mississippi has dominated the series, with a 26-13-1 record against the Wildcats, but Kentucky won the last meeting back in 2006 31-14. The Wildcats had a rough trip down to No.9 Florida last week, as they got beat up 48-14. The Rebels bounced back from a disappointing loss against Vanderbilt with a 55-38 win over Fresno State at home. If you are thinking about betting on the game this weekend, the current odds have the Rebels favored by 2.5-points over the Wildcats at home.

Kentucky (3-1, 0-1 SEC): Kentucky really struggled to get anything going against he Gators last week, as they fell into a 21-0 hole in the second quarter. The Wildcats finally got on the board at the end of the first half, as Randall Cobb hit Chris Matthews on a fake field goal from a 11 yards out for a touchdown. Matthews later scored the only other touchdown for the Wildcats, as he hauled in a 27 yard pass from quarterback Mike Hartline.

Matthews finished the day with six catches for 114 yards and two scores. Hartline threw for 242 yards and a touchdown, but also had two crucial interceptions. Running back Derrick Locke had 103 yards on 23 carries, but was unable to find the endzone for the first time this season. The defense had no answer for Florida backup quarterback Trey Burton, who scored six rushing touchdowns, as the Gators used him very similarly to how they used Tim Tebow.

Mississippi (2-2, 0-1 SEC): Going into last week it had not been a very good start to the 2010 season for the Rebels, as they lost their season opener against Jacksonville State and then was stunned at home by Vanderbilt in their third game. Last week they went up against an undefeated Fresno State team, but thanks to some fine running by Brandon Bolden, the Rebels were able to hold on for the win.

Bolden finished with a career-high 228 yards and two touchdowns on just 19 carries, including a very nice 71 yard touchdown run on the Rebels first possession of the third quarter. Bolden finished the day with three touchdowns, as he also hauled in a four yard pass from quarterback Jeremiah Masoli. Jeff Scott also had a pretty nice day on the ground, rushing for 74 yards and a score, as the Rebels finished with 425 yards rushing against the Bulldogs. Masoli finished with 153 yards with two touchdowns and an interception on 8-12 passing.  The defense allowed just 10 points in the first half, but really struggled in the second half, giving up 28 points to the Bulldogs.

Looking at the Odds: The Rebels have already lost two easy home games this season, and now they must face a pretty good Kentucky team. I think you have to take the points and bet on Kentucky to win this game. The Rebels defense in non-existent and will have a ton of trouble keeping the Wildcats out of the endzone. The Rebels are  just 1-8-2 ATS in their last 11 games as a home favorite of 0.5-3.0. My final score prediction is Kentucky 31, Mississippi 28.
