LA Lakers v. San Antonio Spurs Odds & Predictions

Written March 11, 2009 by Jack Jones

Spurs Lakers BasketballThe San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers are the leaders of the Western Conference and have already met twice this season. In the first matchup, San Antonio was a 3-point home favorite but was able to win by only a single point, 112-111. The Lakers won the second matchup at the Staples Center, 99-85 and covered the seven points they were favored by. For this game San Antonio is a 2-point favorite and the total is set at 196.

San Antonio had lost three of four before starting this four-game home stand, but they have used the home crowd to their advantage, beating Washington, Phoenix and Charlotte and taking the cash in each game. Manu Ginobli has missed significant time, but Tony Parker has really stepped up on the offensive end and the team has put out maximum effort on defense. The team is now giving up just 89 points per game over their last five contests. Ginobli is not the only injured Spur as Drew Gooden has yet to make his debut in a Spurs uniform.

The Spurs are hoping to take advantage of the Lakers’ recent struggles. The team had lost three of their last five before beating Houston in a hard fought game Wednesday night. Monday’s loss to the Blazers was especially brutal as the team was trounced by 17 after being down 30 points in the 2nd half. Trevor Ariza committed a hard foul on Portland’s Rudy Fernandez which led to an on-court incident and Lamar Odom being suspended against Houston for leaving the bench. This is a tough stretch for Los Angeles who has to play 10 of their next 13 games on the road.

The Lakers have covered their last five appearances on Thursday night and are 18-6 ATS in their last 24 as a road underdog. The Spurs have won four straight ATS on TNT and have won seven straight ATS as a favorite.

The Lakers have gone OVER in 6 of 7 games when playing on back-to-back nights and 11-4 OVER in their last 15 road games. The Spurs are 6-0 for the OVER when playing a team that is winning at above a 60% clip and the team is 8-3 OVER in their last 11 games against Western Conference opponents.

Oddsmakers Predicted Score:

San Antonio 99
LA Lakers 97
