ESPN is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers and all-star Pau Gasol have agreed on a three-year contract extension. This news is not that surprising, as Gasol has expressed his interest in wanting to stay in LA. With the new contract Gasol is signed with the Lakers through the 2013-2014 season. It has been reported that Gasol with earn an even $57 million for the extra three years.
There is no question that Laker fans are happy about having Gasol locked up for a few more years, but what they have to be really hoping is that this is a sure sign that Kobe Bryant will remain in a Laker’s uniform for most of, if not the rest of his career.
Gasol has played in just 16 games this season, and is averaging a solid 17 points and 12 rebounds, as the big man missed the Lakers first 12-games of the season with an injury. There is no question that as long as the Lakers have Gasol and Bryant on the floor together, this team is a clear cut favorite to not only get back to the NBA Finals, but many believe this team is going to repeat as NBA Champions.
