LeBron James Talks About Dunks, Contracts, & Shaq
Written August 8, 2009 by Jack Jones
LeBron James recently talked to the National Association of Black Journalists Sports Taskforce about several hot topics, including getting dunked on, the addition of Shaquille O’Neal to the Cavs, not shaking hands after the Cavs were eliminated from the playoffs, and his contract extension.
He said that it is Nike’s policy to confiscate video of pick-up games, which I can buy. Maybe they really just thought they should enforce the policy when LeBron got dunked on because they thought it would make the rounds more than normal. He says he does get dunked on all the time, but then again, how many times to high-schoolers through down on the best player in the league?
He seems pretty excited to play with Shaquille O’Neal this year too. Steve Nash was pretty excited as well when Shaq came over from Miami but that didn’t work out so well. James is going to find his driving lanes are a little more clogged up with the big man in there. Shaq can still make a difference, but he is getting up there in years.
Who knows if LeBron is going to bounce out of Cleveland or not. He says he signed the three-year deal in order to keep his options open. It sounds to me like he’s going to test the waters after this year, whether it’s really to entertain the thought of going somewhere else or just to maximize his value from the Cavs. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
