Detroit Lions vs. Indianapolis Colts NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 11, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Its looking more and more like the Detroit Lions are going to wind up finishing the season without a win, as their final 3 games of the season are against the Colts, Saints, and Packers, with the Lions heading to Indianapolis to take on the Colts this Sunday. Last week the Lions fought hard against the Vikings and even had the lead going into the 2nd half, but still wound up on the wrong end of the stick. As for the Colts things just keep on clicking for this team, as they won their 7th straight, this time in impressive fashion, with a 35-3 win over the Bengals at home. For thos of you looking to do a little NFL betting on this game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Colts 17 point favorites over the Lions at BetUS.com
Now even though the Lions just keep on losing they are starting to look a little better, and Daunte Culpepper is looking more and more comfortable as the starting quarterback of this team, as he threw for 220 yards, including a 70 yard touchdown strike to Calvin Johnson that put the Lions back on top temporarily in the 3rd quarter. The run game wasn’t all that bad, as Kevin Smith ran it 22 times for 63 yards, but the Lions only had 76 yards as a team. This week they go against a Colts defense that is really starting to play well, so its likely going to be another rough week for Lions fans.
Now the Lions defense really played a heck of a football game, considering they came into the game giving up more yards than anybody on the ground, and wound up holding Adrian Peterson to just 102 yards and no touchdowns. Now the problem with that going into this week is the Colts have a passing game unlike the Vikings, and the Lions won’t be able to stack the box to stop the run as they did last week against the Vikings. The Colts had been winning a number of games by slim margins, but last week they made sure that wasn’t the case, as Peyton Manning threw for 277 yards and 3 scores, while Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai ran it 10 times a piece to combine for 57 yards including a 17 yard touchdown run by Rhodes in the first quarter. Manning and his old buddy Marvin Harrison were at it again, as they hooked up 3 times for a team leading 78 yards and one of Peyton’s 3 touchdown tosses. This week the Colts offense should feast against the Lions, as its unlikely they can put forth the same kind of defensive effort as they did last week.
The Colts defense continues to play at a very high level, and if this unit continues to shut down opposing teams, you have to think the Colts will wind up being the team to beat when the playoffs roll around. Last week the defense had 3 interceptions with two coming from Kelvin Hayden, who took one of those interceptions 85 yards back to the house for a score. Now the Lions don’t have much of a threat on the offensive side of things, but if they are going to do damage it will most likely have to come in the passing game, as the Colts run defense has really picked it up over the last 3 weeks.
