Editors Note: Jason Lowry has his NCAA GAME OF THE MONTH GOING in the Big 12 game between the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders.
There is no question the game of the week in NCAA football is the Big 12 game between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Texas Longhorns, as two of the countries best square off in what could be the deciding factor in who represents the Big 12 South this season, and has a shot at the National Championship. Both teams are 8-0 and have taken down some big time opponents. While this is likely Texas final regular season test, this is just the beginning for the Red Raiders as they still have to play Texas, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma before the seasons end. The oddsmakers are taking the No.1 ranked Longhorns in this one, as they come in 6 point favorites over the Red Raiders at Sportsbook.com
The Longhorns will have to do the traveling in this one, but the journey isn’t far. With both teams coming out of Texas there is no question there will be plenty of both fans at this one. The Longhorns had one of their toughest games of the season last week against Oklahoma State when they squeaked out a 28-24 victory, but there was no question Colt McCoy game to play in this one throwing for 392 yards with 2 scores, and leading the team in rushing with 41 yards and another score. One of those scores went to McCoys favorite target in Jordan Shipley who has been a beast all season, and got the Longhorns on the board early with a 14 catch. Shipley had 168 yards and on 15 catches, and continues to play at a very high level.

The Longhorns defense showed off its talent once again, as they held a Cowboys team that had been putting 50 up on about anybody to just 24 points, and just 3 points in the 4th quarter when they came in down just a touchdown. Kendall Hunter showed the Longhorns can be beat on the ground if the talent is there, as he ran it 18 times for 161 yards, including 1 of the teams 3 scores. And it wasn’t that the Cowboys couldn’t throw it as they had 199 yards through the air, but they played tuff when it mattered and kept the other team from scoring. Bet Texas -6 at Sportsbook.com
The Red Raiders just might of shown everyone, including Texas, that the need to be considered as a real National Championship threat with the way they came out and manhandled the Kansas Jayhawks last week 63-21, in a game that wasn’t close past the first few series of the game. Graham Harrell also showed that McCoy might not even be the best quarterback in the Big 12, but the possible front runner in the Heisman race. Last week Harrell through for 386 yards and 5 scores in just 3 quarters of play against a pretty good Jayhawks defense. Harrell will have to be at its best this week against, Texas as the Longhorns have the best defense they will see in Big 12 play.
The Red Raiders defense surprising played better than anyone thought they would, as many expected this game to be a shoot out, after the success Kansas had against Oklahoma the previous week. The Red Raiders obviously had other plans, as they allowed the Jayhawks just 315 yards with most of the yards coming in the 4th quarter when the subs were in. The Red Raiders might not have a chance at stopping the Longhorns so easily, but if they can slow them down at all, they really have a shot at winning this one. Bet Texas Tech +6 at Sportsbook.com
