The Florida Atlantic Owls will try to win their second in a row when they host the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks at the FAU Stadium this Saturday. The Owls finally snapped their 13 game losing streak (dating back to last season) as they defeated the UAB Blazers 38-35. Alfred Morris scored a career-high four touchdowns and Treon Howard returned an interception for a touchdown to secure the Owl victory.
Meanwhile the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks lost their last game against Florida International 28-17. Wesley Carroll came off the bench to throw three touchdown passes to lead Florida International for the victory. In this series, the Warhawks has won 5 games out of 7 dating back to 2003 including a 20-17 victory at home last year.
According to the odds, the Warhawks are listed as a 7.5 point favorite against the Owls with a game total sitting at 47.5.
Louisiana-Monroe
Louisiana-Monroe has played poorly this year, sitting 8th at the Sun Belt Conference with a 3-8 overall record and 2-5 in its conference. In their last game against Florida International, the Warhawks struggled to reach the end zone despite having more downs (25-17) and total yards (356-340) against the Golden Panthers. They struggled to keep senior quarterback Wesley Carroll in check after he was subbed in for an injured Jake Medlock on the second play of the game. Carroll passed for 213 yards and threw touchdown passes to Cole Anderson, Glenn Coleman and Ty Hilton as the Golden Panthers built a 21-7 lead in the first half.
The Warhawks features an offense that ranks 84th in the nation with 24.5 points but they are allowing their opponents 27.7 points/game. The Warhawks are 49th in passing yards with 241.6 yards/game and is 73rd in the rush with 145.9 yards.
Sophomore quarterback Kolton Browning is finishing 57.7% of his passes for 2300 yards and 11 touchdowns to 7 interceptions. Running Back Jyruss Brown leads the team with 573 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns. The team needs these two players to have a big game to ensure a Warhawks victory this Saturday.
Florida Atlantic
The Florida Atlantic Owls have played atrociously all year. They snapped a 10 game losing streak to the UAB Blazers last week and now have a record of 1-10 and 0-7 at the Sun Belt Conference. In their win against the UAB Blazers, Morris rushed for 198 yards on 38 carries in his fifth straight 100 yard game. The head coach for the Owls, Howard Schnellenberger announced that he will retire at season’s end, avoided his first winless campaign.
The Owls rank a horrible 119th in the Nation in points scored with just 14.1/game. They are also allowing an equally bad 35.5 points/game good for 109th in the nation. They are just 106th in the rush with 109 yards/game and 110th in passing yards with 148.9 yards/game.
For this team to have a shot at a victory, quarterback Graham Wilbert needs to play a more efficient game. He is only completing 53.6% of his passes for 1380 yards and seven touchdowns to 14 interceptions. Alfred Morris needs to play the kind of game he played against UAB. Morris has rushed for 1114 yards and 9 touchdowns. He needs to carry that same momentum on Saturday’s game if they want to record their second win in as many games this season.
