In a Top 25 showdown between Big East rivals, the Louisville Cardinals travel to face the Georgetown Hoyas Monday night. This game will be nationally televised on ESPN at 7:00 EST if you are looking to watch. Both teams are coming off huge wins over ranked opponents and will be looking to build on them tonight. Taking a look at the lines on this game, we find odds of Georgetown -5 over Louisville with a total set of 143 points.
No. 23 Louisville (17-4, 6-2) has been on an absolute rollercoaster ride here of late. Three of their last four wins have all come by exactly one point. Just this past week they beat West Virginia 55-54 and on Saturday they knocked off No. 5 Connecticut in double overtime. Peyton Silva has been the catalyst, hitting the game-winner with 4.5 seconds left against the Mountaineers and notching a couple layups in the second overtime to beat the Huskies 79-78. On January 15, the Cardinals erased an 18-point deficit over the final six minutes to steal a win from Marquette by a final of 71-70.
The Cardinals kept the Big East’s leading scorer in Kemba Walker held in check Saturday. Walker went just 7-of-23 from the floor and finished with 20 points after coming into the game averaging 24.2 in Big East play this season. Louisville will have a similar task against Georgetown, trying to stop another elite player in this conference. Austin Freeman is averaging 24.3 points for the Hoyas during their 4-game winning streak. He poured in 30 in a 69-66 win at No. 8 Villanova Saturday.
Georgetown (16-5, 5-4) finally earned a victory over a Big East team with a winning record with their win over the Wildcats. The Hoyas continued their torrid shooting, connecting on 52.2 percent of their shots. Georgetown ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage at 50.9 percent. Freeman has already put up at least 30 points this season on three different occasions and is averaging 18.8 points per game this year. He scored 29 points on 9-of-12 shooting in Georgetown’s 70-60 win over Louisville last season, which was their lone meeting.
While the Cardinals have to worry about stopping Freeman, the Hoyas may have their hands full with Silva. He only played five minutes as a freshman in their loss to Georgetown, but he is taking full advantage of his opportunity as a starter in his sophomore campaign. Silva has connected on 18-of-25 shots over the past four games. While having Silva has been a huge boost to this team, not having freshman center Gorgui Dieng could prove to be detrimental. He is out due to a head injury suffered in Wednesday’s win over West Virginia. In their first game without Dieng Saturday, the Huskies outrebounded the Cardinals 51-36.
