The lowest seed that has ever made it to the championship round is the #8 seed? This has happened twice in the history of the tournament and was accomplished in 1980 by UCLA, who lost to Louisville, and again in 1985 by Villanova, who ended up defeating Georgetown in the final.
The final round of the NCAA Tournament has only featured two #1 seeds 6 times.
It’s fairly common knowledge by now that no #16 seed has ever defeated a #1 seed in the tournament, but you may not know that only 11 of the 96 match ups in tournament history have been within 10 points.
Only once in the history of the NCAA Tournament have all four #1 seeds made it to the Final Four.
A team seeded as #10 or #12 has never made it past the Elite 8.
The #13 and #14 seeds in the tournament have made it as deep as the Sweet 16 only twice.
